Kindergarten round-ups to be held
Taking Note
The Jay School Corporation will hold kindergarten round-ups for area schools in April. Children must be five on or before Aug. 1 to enroll in public school kindergarten.
Round-ups at General Shanks and Redkey Elementary will be held Tuesday, April 2; Pennville, Westlawn and Bloomfield Elementary Schools will be Wednesday, April 3; and Judge Haynes and East Elementary will be Thursday, April 4. They will all begin at 8:30 a.m.
Students should attend with their parents and a certified birth certificate and immunization record are needed. For more information, call (260) 726-9341.
Adult choir
Vox Altus (adult choir) will be held each Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Arts Place in Portland through May 7 (except March 26) and a concert will be held on May 10..
The instructor is Theo Hicks. To register, call (260) 726-4809, visit www.artland.org or stop by Arts Place at 131 E. Walnut St. in Portland.
The choir is sponsored by POET Biorefining.
Arts classes
The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture will have Native American traditional cultural arts classes in Portland in March.
The classes will be held March 23 and 24 at the Women’s Building at the Jay County Fairgrounds. Classes include beaded rosettes, stone tools, tobacco bag and side seam moccasins. Scholarships are available for school teachers, home school teachers and school children. Bridge festival
Steve Krull, superintendent of the Adams County Parks and Recreation Department, and Pam Krause, director of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, are discussing the possibility of a Ceylon Covered Bridge Festival in honor of the only covered bridge left across the Wabash River.
A tentative date is set for Sept. 14. A “Dinner on the Bridge” event will be held July 13.
