Knapkes celebrate 60th (08/13/07)

Mr. and Mrs. Harold "Doc" Knapke, 108 Wiggs St., Fort Recovery, are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Aug. 19 with a Mass at 10 am. at Mary Help of Christians Church in Fort Recovery. A reception will be held in the church undercroft from 2 to 4 p.m.

Harold married Ruth Schmitz in 1947 in St. Henry, Ohio.

Ruth was a school secretary for West Elementary School in Fort Recovery and Doc was a teacher and principal for 41 years at Fort Recovery and Jay County Schools. They retired in 1987.

Doc has collected more than 1 million pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and was inducted in the Fort Recovery Hall of Fame this year.

They are the parents of Ted, Columbus, Ohio; Ginny, Wellsboro, Pa.; Margaret, Dayton, Ohio; Tim, Portland; Carol, Centerville, Ohio; and Pat, Russia, Ohio. They have 14 grandchildren.[[In-content Ad]]
