Knights defeat Starfire spikers (10/11/05)

FORT WAYNE — The South Adams volleyball team slipped to 6-22 Thursday, falling 25-14, 25-18, 25-18 to the Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Knights.

The Starfires managed just 12 kills in the match, getting four apiece from Renee Neuenschwander and Brooke Fox. Neuenschwander also had six digs and two blocks.

Maranda Potts finished with 11 digs, Alyssa Miller had 10 assists and Andrea Moser posted a pair of blocks.

South Adams also dropped the junior varsity match to Bishop Luers, 25-17, 25-13.

FR freshman roll Russia

FORT RECOVERY — Chelsea Klenke and Kelsey Wuebker each racked up double-digit points as the Fort Recovery freshman volleyball team jumped over the .500 mark. The Indians defeated the Russia Raiders 25-14, 25-14 Monday.

Klenke had a team-best 20 points in the victory. Wuebker finished with 13 points.

Joanna Snyder added five blocks and four kills as Fort Recovery improved to 7-6.

Eagle eighth rolls

DUNKIRK — West Jay’s eighth grade volleyball team capped its 2005 season with a 25-19, 25-18 victory over Salamonie Monday. The seventh grade team fell, 12-25, 25-15, 15-13.

Brittany Muhlenkamp and Brittney Watson powered the victory for the eighth grade team (6-4) with seven and five kills respectively.

Keri VanSkyock had 12 points, Amber McCowan notched nine and Brittany Franklin finished with eight. Franklin totaled five aces, and VanSkyock and McCowan each added four.

Breanna Dahlstrom scored 17 points for the seventh graders, 13 of which came in the opening game. She finished with 13 aces.

Denia Hough and Hayley Knight each had a pair of kills.

Indians top Ansonia

FORT RECOVERY — Jessica Taylor and Lorraine Shier led the Fort Recovery eighth grade volleyball team to its 12th win Monday as it defeated the Ansonia Tigers 25-10, 25-11. The seventh grade team also topped Ansonia, 25-27, 25-15, 15-12.

Taylor racked up 11 points for the Indian eighth graders (12-2). Shier was right behind her with 10 points.

Emily May finished with five kills.

Holly Brunswick scored 10 points and Barbie Link and Haley Wilson added six points apiece for the seventh grade team (7-7). Olivia Thien had three kills.

EJ closes with wins

East Jay’s volleyball teams each closed with victories Monday. The seventh grade team finished at 8-9 with a 25-14, 23-25, 15-10 over Bellmont, and the eighth grade team posted an 11-7 record thanks to a 25-13, 25-19 victory.

Brittany Manor and Laura Castillo powered the victory for the seventh grade Chiefs. Manor had team highs of 13 assists and 11 kills while added 12 digs. Castillo led East Jay with 29 digs and 11 points.

Katelyn Crump added 10 points, and Abby Denney and Katie Geeseman finished with eight kills apiece.

Kelsey Wood had team highs of nine points, five digs and three aces for the eighth grade team. She also had a pair of kills.

Shelby Gierhart finished with six points and four digs, and Ashley Langenkamp had four assists and two kills. Lindsey Wellman had five kills and two aces, and Pazia Speed notched two kills and two aces.

Liz Walker put up four assists, and Loryn Horn also had two kills.

Locals fare well

Five local riders came through with victories in contested races during motocross competition at XPLEX Extreme Competition Park Sunday.

Local winners were Nathan Glassford, Nathan McClain, Terry Coby and Clark Snyder, all of Portland, and Kevin Ranley of Fort Recovery.[[In-content Ad]]
