Knights roll in opening round

The Patriots were able to get a look at their semifinal opponent in the opening round Wednesday. But it didn’t last long.
The Northeastern Knights made quick work of the Randolph Southern Rebels, 5-0, in the opening round of the Sectional 64 boys tennis tournament hosted by Jay County.
Northeastern gave up just four total games in the victory, with Ian Gough and Jake Wissel turning in shutout victories at No. 1 and 3 singles respectively.
The Patriots lost 5-0 to Northeastern earlier this season. The closest match came at No. 1 doubles, where Patriots Chance Fuller and Morton Garringer lost 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.
The teams will meet in the semifinal round today at 5 p.m.

Giants top SA
MARION — The South Adams boys soccer team fell 5-1 Wednesday to the Marion Giants in a game that was halted early because of darkness.
The Starfires (2-12) fell behind 3-0 to Marion in the opening half. After the Giants scored two more goals in the second half, Hirotaka Asaoko tallied the lone SAHS goal off an assist from Dustin Dellinger.
L.J. Moser had 15 saves in the defeat.

Chiefs fall in 3
East Jay Middle School’s seventh grade volleyball team suffered a 24-25, 25-19, 15-14 loss Tuesday to visiting Union City West Side.
The sixth graders fell 25-14, 25-8 Tuesday to the Yorktown Tigers, and lost 25-7, 25-16 Monday against Selma.
Abby Barcus had three kills for the seventh grade team, which dropped to 8-6. Audrey Shreve added three aces.
Kaylee Inman finished with four service points and three digs Tuesday against Yorktown for the EJMS sixth graders (0-5). Irene Braun totaled five service points in Monday’s loss.[[In-content Ad]]
