BERNE — The South Adams boys swim team closed its regular season Thursday with a 101-69 victory over East Noble.

Matt Kruse’s pair of wins led the Starfires. He was first in the 100-yard butterfly by more than 12 seconds in 56.29 seconds, and took first place in the 200 individual medley in 2-minutes, 16.08 seconds.

The sophomore was also in on South Adams’ victories in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

Justin Klopp, who also took part in both winning relays, finished first in the 50 freestyle in 24.11. Kyle Affolder reached the wall first in the 100 breaststroke, posting a time of 1:08.62.

Jay third at Norwell

OSSIAN — Jay County’s middle school boys swim team finished third at the seven-team Norwell Invitational Thursday with 192 points.

The host Knights won the meet with 289 points, and Bluffton took second with 214. South Adams was fourth with 178.

Neal Fennig grabbed the lone win for Jay County with a time of 1-minute, 22.95 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke. Richard Osterholt finished third in the 200 freestyle in 2:40.28.

South Adams had a pair of victories with Caleb Wurster taking the 200 freestyle in 2:27.17 and Alex Habegger first in the 100 individual medley in 1:01.68.

SAMS reaches 5-0

WINCHESTER — There weren’t as many pins, but the South Adams Middle School wrestling team still came away with a win. The Starfires came out on top in the opening five matches on the way to a 46-33 victory over Winchester Driver Thursday.

Todd Batt (75) opened the evening with a pin in 2:14 for South Adams, which remained perfect at 5-0. Also adding pins were Josh Ehr (95), John Striker (115) and Jimmy West (225).

Jordan Landers (90) picked up a major decision victory, and Gabe Sprunger (80), Dustin Wanner (85), Braden Baer (105) and T.J. Burnfield (120) each won by decision.[[In-content Ad]]
