Landfair, Vormohr lead Jay tankers (03/12/05)

DECATUR — The Jay County middle school girls swim team bounced back from its first loss of the year, picking up a 99-86 victory over Bellmont Thursday. The boys team lost 107-77.

Michelle Landfair and Cori Vormohr each won a pair of events for the girls team. Landfair was first in the 100-yard individual medley in 1-minute, 19.12 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.32. Vormohr took wins in the 50 butterfly in 29.36 seconds, and the 400 freestyle in 4:41.51.

Briann Saxman was first in the 100 freestyle in 1:07.33, and April Acker took the diving victory with 103.80 points.

The girls team was also victorious in all three relays.

There were three individual wins for the boys team, with Chance Milligan was first in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.26 and the 50 freestyle in 28.25. Steven Kelly won the diving competition by nearly 50 points with a 106.20 total.

State champ

Abby Poole, a relative of several current and former Portland residents, won the Indiana gymnastics all-around Level 4 state championship last week.

Poole, 8, scored a 37.675 to finish first at the competition Sunday. She led her Ultra Stars Academy team to a second-place finish.

She is the daughter of Jay County High School graduates Wayne and Dee Dee Poole, and the granddaughter of Portland residents Larry and Jeannine Poole and former Pennville residents Tom and Mary Helen Harriett.[[In-content Ad]]
