Lehman, Sprunger lead South Adams (05/01/07)

WINCHESTER - Haleigh Lehman and Whitney Sprunger carried the Starfire girls Monday.

Nathan Rupp tried to do the same for the boys.

All three finished with a pair of victories as the South Adams girls track team defeated the Winchester Golden Falcons 66-52, and the boys lost 65-57.

Both Lehman and Rupp took their wins in the 1,600-meter run and 3,200 run while Whitney Sprunger controlled the hurdle events.

Lehman won the 3,200 at 12-minutes, 34 seconds, and finished with 1,600 in 5:45. She also paced the winning 4x800 relay team, which posted a time of 11:12.

Sprunger's victory in the 100 hurdles came in 17.6 seconds. She finished the 300 hurdles victory in 55.2.

Rupp turned in winning times of 11:18 in the 3,200 and 5:05 in the 1,600.

Other wins for the girls team came from Megan Myers (discus - 90 feet 31/2 inches) and Allison Beitler (800 run - 2:38). Adding victories for the boys team were Josh Cisney (110 hurdles - 16.0) and Dustin Ehr (400 dash - 56.78).

Both SAHS teams took first place in the 4x100 relay.

Luers tops baseball

BERNE - The South Adams baseball team gave up two runs in the first inning and could never quite pull even in a 10-7 loss to the Bishop Luers Knights.

The Starfires got within one at 2-1 and 6-5, but Jordan Sharp suffered the defeat. He gave up eight runs - six earned - on seven hits and three walks.

Ethan Sharp led the SAHS offense with a double, two runs and an RBI. Jordan Sharp notched two hits, including a double, and a run, and Otis Mitchel had an RBI single and two runs.[[In-content Ad]]
