Library needs winners (07/22/2008)

Taking Note

Winners in Jay County Public Library's "Create-a-Bug" contest were recently announced.

Bret Moore was the winner for five years and younger; Kristy Robbins won for six to eight year olds; Katie Robbins was the winner for nine to 12 years; Jessica Carducci won for 13 years and older and Shannon Klotz and Jennifer DeBoy were family winners.

Bugs should be picked up at the library by the end of July and prize bags are available for those who completed the reading program and did not attend the pool party.

Car show

The Swiss Heritage Car Show will be held Saturday at Swiss Heritage Village in Berne with registration from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Dash plaques will be given to the first 120 cars registered and awards will be given to the top 40 cars at 3 p.m.

Quilt show

The Swiss Days Quilt Show will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at South Adams High School in Berne.

To be recognized

The Cincinnatus League recently announced community members who will be recognized for a lifetime of service.

They include Bill and Joan Kelly, Portland; Robert Countryman, Dunkirk; Anita Young, Portland; Jim Bob McEwen, Dunkirk; and Rogers and Janice Durham, Portland.

The recognition service will take place Thursday, July 31, at 3 p.m. in the Farmer's Building during the Jay County Fair.

Collegiate Scholar

Dane G.T. Rowles, Portland, recently accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) and will be honored this fall during an induction convocation at Ball State University.

NSCS is for first and second year college students. Membership is by invitation only and is based on grade point average and class standing. Membership includes career and networking resources, scholarships, travel and service projects on campus and in the community.

Dean's list

Sara Ronald, Portland, has been named to the dean's list at Indiana University College of Arts and Sciences for the spring semester at Indiana University, Bloomington.

Janel Renee Chittum, Redkey, has been named to the University College Honors List for the spring semester at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. She received a Dean's List Honorable Mention certificate.

Brianne Morrical, Portland, has been named to the dean's list for the spring semester at the University of Evansville.

Amanda Marie Barnett, Portland, has been named to the University College Honors List for the spring semester at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis, and received a Dean's List Honorable Mention.

Exchange students

The Foundation for Intercultural Travel is currently matching international students, ages 15 to 18, with host families in the area.

Students will arrive approximately a week before school begins.
