Library to have pool party
Taking Note
Children and teens who reach their reading goals in the Jay County Public Library summer reading contests are invited to a pool party on Saturday, July 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Portland Pool. There will be reward bags and refreshments.
Those who don't attend the party may pick up reward bags at the library from Monday, July 27, to Aug. 15.
A list of winners who may attend the party will be available at the library on Monday. For more information, call the library at (260) 726-7890.
Elvis Extravaganza
Bearcreek Farms' Elvis Extravaganza will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Events will be held at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
Thursday will feature country music artist Ronnie McDowell. McDowell gained instant popularity in the 1970's for the song "The King Is Gone" which he wrote and sang.
Friday will feature Jerome Jackson, the winner of the Elvis impersonator National Finals.
Saturday will feature the Elvis Impersonator contest with the winner gaining a spot in the National Finals at the Florida State Fair in Tampa in Feb. of 2010.

Wetland tours
Tours will be given the first Saturday of each month, through October, of the restored Loblolly Marsh Wetland Preserve. The preserve is located on 250 West, Bryant.
A naturalist will have orientation at 9:30 a.m. at the Wetland Education Center at the Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva, 200 E. 6th St. Tours will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Tea party
The ninth annual Limberlost Tea Party will be held at the Limberlost Cabin in Geneva on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The Pink Violins of Brownie Girl Scout troop No. 840 will perform and Deb Gerace will sing a selection of American and Irish folk tunes, including "A Girl of the Limberlost."
Women are encouraged to wear Victorian style hats for the hat contest. There will also be door prizes.

Exhibit
Hartford City artist Kim Anderson will have the exhibit "The Garden in the Altar" at the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery at Arts Place in Portland through Aug. 20.
Anderson teaches drawing and design at Ball State University and ceramics at the Indianapolis Art Center.
Arts Place, 131 E. Walnut St. in Portland, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.
