Limberlost hosting bluegrass jam (07/13/06)

A bluegrass jam will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Limberlost State Historic Site in Geneva. Musicians are invited to bring their instruments and perform solo or jam with others.
Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an afternoon of bluegrass ballads, gospel songs and folk tunes.
The Limberlost gift shop will be open and guided tours of the Limberlost Cabin will be available. Also the Geneva Proud food cart will offer food and drinks.

Ball State graduates
Several Jay County residents recently graduated from Ball State University during the 2006 spring semester.
Debra Shidler, Portland, earned a bachelor of fine arts degree.
Austin Chapman and Julia Tarr, both of Portland, earned bachelor’s degrees in general studies.
Nicholas Hoffman, Bryant; Corinne Erwin and Nicole Whitesell, both of Dunkirk; Joseph Vinson, Pennville; Kyle Cook, Cynthia Crooks, Ashley DeWitt, Jennifer Knight, Michelle Newton, William Saxman and Hannah Spahr, all of Portland; Christopher Clemens, Jamie Faller and Dean Yoder, all of Geneva; Shon Byrum and Anita Clott, both of Ridgeville, earned bachelor of science degrees.
Valerie Cooper and Amanda Price, both of Dunkirk, earned master of arts degrees.
Reading program ends
The summer reading programs for children and teens at Jay County Public Library will end Saturday and all reading materials must be logged in by 5 p.m.
Those meeting their goal are invited to attend a pool party on Saturday, July 22, at 5 p.m. at Portland Pool. Awards will be presented, pizza and drinks will be provided.
Teens who read four books will be invited to an exclusive teen party on Tuesday, July 25, from 7 to 8 p.m. at JCPL. Registration is required and may be made by calling (260) 726-7890.
Tea tasting
Jay County Public Library will have an iced tea party on Tuesday, July 18. Stop by the library between 6 and 8 p.m. to sample flavored iced teas and hot teas, enjoy tea cakes and sample smoothies. There will also be lemonade and spritzers for non-tea drinkers.
For more information, call the library at (260) 726-7890. The event is being sponsored by The Glass Bonsai, Sharlette’s Fudgery, Redkey Ext. Homemakers and Friends of the Library.
FFA award
Mary Will, a Fort Recovery FFA member, received the DeKalb Agricultural Accomplishment award. She is the daughter of Mark and Kathy Will.
She received the award for excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work experience, including top rankings at the state level in poultry judging.
Mary recently completed a year as an Ohio FFA officer, in which she traveled the state promoting agriculture and the FFA.
She has also held the offices of vice president and president.
Her name will be recorded on a plaque displayed in the Fort Recovery High School ag room.
Outdoor cooking
Ouabache State Park will have an outdoor cooking demonstration on Thursday, July 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Trails End shelter.
The demonstration is free but participants will need to bring food items and a drink. For a complete list of items needed, call (260) 824-0926.
There is a $5 admission charge to the park.
Artists needed
Arts Place in Portland has Arts in the Parks classes still available. Brochures can be picked up at Arts Place and registrations may be mailed, brought to Arts Place or accepted at the class site.
