Lincolncview foul shooting hurts Tribe in defeat (01/12/04)

Fort Recovery went on the road Saturday night and had much the same experience Jay County did in its two games this weekend.

The Indian boys basketball team experienced a huge free throw disparity in a 72-60 loss to the Lincolnview Lancers. It was the fourth straight loss for the Tribe.

Fort Recovery (3-6) shot 49 percent for the game, including 54 percent in the second half, but could not overcome the Lancers’ free throw advantage.

Lincolnview went to the foul line 37 times in the contest. It made just 24 of those shots (65 percent), but it was more than enough.

The Indians took just seven free throws in the contest and were called for 25 personal fouls. Lincolnview was whistled for just eight personal fouls.

Dusty Tobe put in 23 points for Fort Recovery, which trailed by five at halftime and 10 after three quarters but could not make a comeback. John Bihn finished with 10 points and nine rebounds, and C.J. Tobe had nine points.

Tyler Wuebker had five rebounds, and Greg Faller finished with four assists.

Nick Missler was outstanding, hitting 12-of-14 from the field and 8-of-9 from the line for 32 points. He also matched teammate Ross Evans for a team-high eight rebounds for the Lancers.

Travis Osting scored 14 points and had five steals, and Evans added five steals and three assists.

Fort Recovery also lost the junior varsity contest 41-37 in overtime. The Tribe shot just 1-of-7 in the overtime period.

Tyler Thobe paced the Indians with 12 points and five rebounds. Jason VanSkyock had eight points and eight rebounds.

The Lancers were led by Mike Breese with nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Kyle Seekings had seven points and six rebounds.

Fort Recovery plays again at Marion Local Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Jay 5th at AC

The Jay County wrestling team finished fourth at the eight-team Adams Central Invitational Saturday with 135 points. Bloomington South won the event with 261 points, and the host Jets were second with 198.

Tyler Bash (HVY), Kurtis Hess (135) and Bill Spahr (152) shared the best result for the Patriots, each finishing as tournament runner-up.

Hess defeated two-time state medalist Tyler Goble of Bloomington South 6-5 before falling 17-16 to Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger’s Chris Trahim in the finals. Bash dropped a 6-5 decision to Adams Central’s Josh Stetler in the championship round, and Bill Spahr lost by way of a pin against Bloomington South’s Bryce Kent.

Hess has the team’s top record on the year at 20-3. Bash is 21-4, and Spahr is 14-7.

Other top finishes for Jay County were Micah Enyart (130) and Robert Ralston (160), both in fourth place.

Jay County will wrestle at Connersville Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

City of Portland wins

The seeds held throughout the season-ending tournament for the Jay Community Center’s 3-on-3 men’s basketball league, with City of Portland claiming the title Sunday.

The top-seeded team won the championship with a 109-87 tournament final victory over the second-seeded Soggy Bottom Boyz. Both teams finished the regular season with 8-1 records.

Donnie Schlosser led City of Portland to the title with 49 points. Dan Ninde scored 28 points, and Matt Aker had 20 points.

Chris Snow had 37 points for Soggy Bottom Boyz in the defeat.[[In-content Ad]]
