Lions put end to Starfires' streak (09/14/05)

BERNE —The winning streak came to an end.

South Adams had won back-to-back matches to open Allen County Athletic Conference play after starting the season 1-9. The Leo Lions wouldn’t let the Starfires get a third, defeating them 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22 Thursday.

Renee Neuenschwander paced South Adams (3-10, 2-1 ACAC) again with 15 kills and 14 digs. She also had a pair of aces.

Alyssa Miller finished with 28 assists and two aces, and Andrea Moser added three aces. Amber Melick reached double digits with 10 digs, Brooke Fox had seven kills and Tamara Moser notched a pair of blocks.

The Starfires dropped the junior varsity match to Leo, 25-8, 25-17.

Tribe junior high wins two

FORT RECOVERY — The Indian seventh and eighth graders finally posted wins on the same night.

Having split in each of their first five matches, the Tribe teams got together Tuesday for a pair of victories over the Versailles Tigers. The eighth grade team improved to 5-1 with a 25-20, 22-25, 15-12 victory, and Fort Recovery’s seventh graders picked up their second win with a 25-19, 25-13 triumph.

Nicole Pottkotter paced the eighth grade Indians with team highs of 13 points and seven assists. She also had three kills.

Jessica Taylor notched a team-best six kills, and Emily May added three. May also scored eight points, and Josie Guggenbiller had six assists.

Nichole Kaiser finished with 11 points and three kills as the Tribe seventh graders improved to 2-4. Barbie Link had 13 points, and Olivia Thien added three kills.

Jay eighth rallies for victory

MONTPELIER — East Jay’s eighth graders fell behind early, but rallied Tuesday for a 23-25, 25-22, 15-12 victory over Montpelier. The seventh grade team lost 25-23, 17-25, 15-11.

Shelby Gierhart scored a team-best eight points to lead a balanced serving attack for the Chief eighth graders. Ashley Langenkamp, Liz Walker and Lindsey Wellman each scored seven points.

Langenkamp, Walker and Lacey Randolph finished with three aces apiece.

Abby Denney powered the seventh graders with 13 points and two kills. Shelby Ruiz had six points and three assists, and Laura Castillo added two kills.[[In-content Ad]]
