Local clubs honored (05/04/06)

The Jay County Extension Homemakers recently held their annual achievement day to honor local clubs and their accomplishments for the year.
Esther Davis of the Noble Busy Bees Club and Maryjane Houck from Penn 50 Club were both recognized for being 50-year members.
The Jackson NuKummers Club was honored for 40 years and Penn Township for being active for 75 years. Also 15 members from seven different clubs were honored with perfect attendance certificates. Eleanor Purcell was recognized for the most years served as an extension homemaker and Ruth Shrack for being the eldest member of the organization.
To graduate
Joseph Vinson will graduate from Ball State University on Saturday with a bachelor’s degree in graphic arts management.
An open house will be held in his honor on Sunday at 1 p.m. at his parents’ home.
He plans to work at St. Clair Press in Indianapolis.
Attends academy
Jeff Davis, principal of Westlawn Elementary School in Dunkirk, recently graduated from the Indiana Principal Leadership Academy. The two-year program is intended to strengthen administrative skills through training in educational leadership, school culture, teaching and learning and communication.
Artist reception
A reception will be held Friday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Arts Place in Portland to mark the beginning of a display of local artist Stephen R. McClung’s oil paintings. Entertainment will be provided by Faere Wyndes, a musical ensemble led by Peter Vogler.
The reception is being held in conjunction with the Jay County Civic Theatre performance of “Hello Dolly” which begins at 7 p.m. Admission to the reception and the art display, in the Hugh N. Ronald Gallery, are free.
The exhibit is sponsored by Family Practice of Jay County.
Community service
Jessica Heitkamp, Portland, is serving as a community service volunteer for the spring semester at DePauw University in Greencastle. She is a freshman.
First manager
Scott Riffle, Greenville, Ohio, was recently hired as the first manager of the Mercer County Fair.[[In-content Ad]]
