Local construction shows rebound

Marsh closing

Marsh Supermarkets in Huntington will close in early May.

The chain grocery store located at 220 S. Jefferson St. will be open for its last day of business on May. 9. The number of jobs affected was not released.

Marsh operates a location in Portland.

Telecom partership

Omnicity Corp. announced a connection with Craigville Telephone Company to increase broadband service to the region.

Omnicity will increase coverage throughout Huntington, Allen, Wells and Adams counties through the partnership and through continued work with United REMC. The company will use Craigville's fiber optic network to provide additional broadband service.

Running session

Adams Memorial Hospital will host a free session on how to prepare for the running season.

Adams Memorial's Laurissa Dalrymple, personal trainer, and Mark Watson, physical therapist, will present information on how to prepare for running and how to avoid injury.

Grilled chicken

Kentucky Fried Chicken is hoping to capture health-conscious consumers with the introduction of grilled chicken.

The new recipe was rolled out this week as KFC is trying to recapture interest with a healthier alternative to its staple fried Original Recipe. The grilled chicken contains about half the fat and calories of its fried counterpart.

The new grilled chicken is available for sale at the KFC/Taco Bell location in Portland.

Small engines

Small Engine Warehouse is celebrating a grand opening for its new Muncie location today.

The company expanded to a new nearly 40,000 square foot location at 4005 N. Wheeling Ave., Muncie. In addition to its Dunkirk counterpart, the Muncie branch will offer extended rental services as well as added items for purchase.

The Muncie location will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The store can be contacted at (765) 282-2757.

Comcast fined

Comcast Corp. will pay $900,000 in fines for calling people on a do-not-call list.

The Federal Trade Commission levied the fines against the company following charges alleging that the telecommunications provider called people who asked to not be contacted via phone.

Sales manager

Bell Aquaculture announced Monday that it has hired Mark Leavell as inside sales manager.

Leavell will be in charge of orders, sales and customer relations for Bell, headquartered in Redkey. He worked for Coca-Cola Enterprises since 1999 before joining the Bell staff.

Leavell is a Jay County High School graduate and received a general studies degree from Indiana University. He serves as a volunteer firefighter and first responder in the Redkey area.

Verizon workshop

Verizon Wireless, Muncie, is offering a free workshop and training for users of personal data assistants and smartphones Wednesday.

The workshop will teach participants about the many functions of their wireless devices such as Internet browsing, Bluetooth and other topics. The workshop is for Verizon customers with a PDA or smartphone, or those considering purchasing those items in the future.

The free workshop will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at 1600 W. McGalliard Road. Registration is required at http://workshop.wds.vzw.com.

Senior breakfast

Swiss Village, Berne, will host its 19th annual free senior breakfast on May 1.

To celebrate National Older American's Month in May, Swiss Village and the Berne Rotary Club are co-sponsoring the free breakfast of scrambled eggs, biscuits, pancakes and sausage for all senior citizens.

The breakfast will also feature door prizes and health screenings (at a cost). The event will take place from 7 to 9 a.m. on May 1. For more information, contact Michelle Lechlitner at (260) 589-3173.

Encounter seminar

D&J Bail Bonds and Investigations will present a seminar today on how to handle encounters with police.

The presentation will teach people about their 4th, 5th and 6th Amendment rights and give tips on how to handle encounters with police. The seminar is free and will run from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the office, 122 N. Commerce St., Portland. Call ahead to register at (260) 726-2455.

Banker featured

MainSource Financial Group Inc. president and CEO Archie M. Brown Jr. is featured in a cover story for the latest issue of Hoosier Banker Magazine.

Brown, who was chosen to head up the company in August, was featured in a five-page Q&A covering topics such as his entrance into banking, the current economic climate and personal life. MainSource operates 60 offices in 30 counties in Indiana, including Jay and Randolph.[[In-content Ad]]
