Local IPFW students honored

Taking Note

Several area students were honored at the annual IPFW Honors Convocation on Sunday at the Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne.

Students were recognized for making either the dean’s list, the semester honors list or both.

Making the honors list from Dunkirk was Debra Addington. Abby Lautzenheiser and Joshua Wuebker, both of Portland, made the honors list.

Making both lists from Portland were Joshua Kable, Brent Starr, Thomas Martig and Kristin McKee.

STORY TIME

The first baby story time will be held Thursday, Oct. 7, at 9:30 a.m. at the Jay County Public Library for infants up to 24 months old.

Older children are welcome to attend, but activities will be baby oriented.

SAVE MONEY

Consumer and Family Science Educator from Randolph County, Debbie Reed, will present a program “66 Ways to Save Money” on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the JCPL.

Reed will discuss transportation, insurance, banking/credit, housing, utilities, food purchases, prescription drugs, funeral arrangements and everyday expenses.

COOKING CLASS

Cooking for Today, a cooking show, will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. at Arts Place in Portland.

Doors will open at 6 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Strohl Appliance and Electronics, Tyson Mexican Original, Mike’s Rental, WPGW Radio, Graphic Printing Co. and Fisher Catering and Meats.

Tickets will be sold for $2 at Strohl’s.

Booth rental is available for $15.

BEHAVIOR COURSE

Bluffton Regional Medical Center’s downtown campus is offering a five-week course on redirecting children’s behavior beginning Thursday, Oct. 14, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The course is designed for anyone who works with children to learn why children misbehave and how to redirect their actions.

The cost is $25 per person and $35 for a couple.

MINNETRISTA EVENTS

Pioneer Life, which illustrates the life of the Hoosier pioneer, will be held Friday, Oct. 15, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie. There will be hands-on activities. The event costs $5.

Also, an 1836 Central Canal Minne-Trip will be held Friday, Oct. 22, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The tour will trace the remains of the 1836 Central Canal with J. Darrell Bakken, a member of the Canal Society of Indiana.

The path will be followed for the proposed canal through Delaware, Madison, and Hamilton counties. There will be several stops along the way, including one in Noblesville for conversation and a late lunch. The cost is $20 plus money for lunch.

The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 15.
