Local woman joins honor society (11/15/07)

Taking Note

Deborah D. Jones, Portland, was recently inducted in the Golden Key International Honour Society at Ball State University for having a 4.0 GPA.

She is a surgical nurse at Jay County Hospital and is pursuing a master's degree in nursing with emphasize in the nurse practitioner field of study.

Top runner

Eric Leninger, 24, a resident of Geneva, was the winner of the men's race to the top of Sears Tower Skydeck in Chicago, the nation's tallest building.

Leninger ran the Go Vertical Chicago race up 103 flights of stairs (2,109 steps) in 13 minutes, 42 seconds.

Attends convention

Members of the Jay County FFA recently attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

There were 27 members that attended the first day and 15 members stayed for the week. They attended a Montgomery Gentry concert, and extreme bull riding rodeo and several sessions and workshops to strengthen leadership skills.

Three graduated members received the American FFA degree and members selected to receive the American FFA degree were Trent Muhlenkamp, Lanae Caster and Valery Muhlenkamp.

Good Citizens

The Mississinewa Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution chose Katie Marie Broering as Good Citizen for 2007.

She has demonstrated the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. She is a senior at Jay County High School and the daughter of Greg and Brenda Broering, rural Portland. The runner up Good Citizen is Laura Vogler. She is also a senior and the daughter of Peter and Lisa Vogler, Portland.

Christmas Walk
