LIMA, Ohio — The Portland Rockets didn’t enjoy their first trip away from Runkle-Miller Field.
In their first road game of the season, the Rockets took just their second loss by an 11-6 score to the Lima Locos. Portland is now 8-2 on the year.
The Rockets led 6-0 after two innings, but Lima tied the game by the sixth inning and then pulled away as it posted 11 unanswered runs. Jay County graduate Mitch Waters took the defeat.
Waters was the lone Portland player to finish with two hits.
Geneva stumbles
EVANSVILLE — The Geneva Cardinals continued to struggle this weekend, falling to the Evansville Outlaws 11-3 Saturday and 4-3 Sunday.
Evansville won the second game thanks to an eighth-inning home run off of Bryan Reid. Reid took the loss despite allowing just three earned runs on five hits while striking out eight.
Victor Canales finished with two hits and two runs to lead the Cardinals. Alex Childers had a couple of RBIs, and Chris Anderson had two hits.
Geneva (1-6), which has not won since its season-opener against the South Bend Senators, led 2-1 Saturday before fading. Evansville totaled nine runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings as it handed Billy Craig the defeat.
Landon Story had two hits and a run, and Ryan Bedwell and Childers each notched an RBI.[[In-content Ad]]
