Lombardo powers Jay baseball

MUNCIE - Three home runs, including a pair from Colton Lombardo, powered the Jay County High School baseball team to an 11-0, five-inning slaughter Tuesday over the Muncie Southside Rebels.
Lombardo set the pace for the Patriots (9-8), who scored five runs in the second inning and four in the fourth on the way to their fifth straight win. He drove in three runs with his pair of long balls.
Billy Wellman also went deep for his fourth home run in the last three games. He also had a single, two runs and two RBIs.
Nathan Brown was a perfect 3-for-3 as he drove in two runs and scored twice.
Wellman went the distance for the win, striking out 10 batters in five innings. He gave up just two hits and two walks.
SA tops Jay JV
BERNE - Host South Adams scored five runs in the first inning and never gave up the lead Tuesday in a 14-7 win over the Jay County junior varsity baseball team.
The Patriots (4-8) pulled event at 5-5 and 7-7, but SAHS scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and three more in the top of the fifth to pull away.
Eric Beougher took the loss for Jay County, giving up 11 runs on 13 hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings. He struck out four batters.
Anthony Robbins led the Patriots with a home runs. He drove in three runs and scored twice.
Ryan Miskinis drove in two runs with a double, and Anthony Skeens had two hits.
Lions win opener
Shane Stant had a single and two runs in leading Portland Lions to a 12-7 win over Portland Kiwanis in Portland Junior League Pee Wee Reese baseball Monday.
In other games it was Persimmon Ridge 22, Local 1620 5 in Pee Wee Reese; Ponderosa 20, Barnett's Auto Parts 8 and Williams Auto Parts 7, Park-a-Sak 3 in Rookie; and Inman U-Loc 7, PG-14 1 and MainSource 19, Portland Optimist 0 in Willie Mays.
Logan Hicks also scored twice for Lions. Logan Antrim had three hits, including two doubles, and two runs for Persimmon Ridge.
Derek Bryan went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two runs in Ponderosa's win, and Mike Schlecty led Williams with a single, a double and two runs.
