Ludy extends hitting streak

Local roundup

LAKEWOOD, N.J. — Josh Ludy has continued to make the most of his playing time.
Ludy extended his hitting streak to six games Wednesday as the Lakewood BlueClaws topped the Hickory Crawdads 9-3.
The 2008 Jay County High School graduate, who was an eighth-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in June, singled during Lakewood’s four-run first inning. He reached base on an error in the fourth.
Ludy also went 2-for-3 Saturday as the BlueClaws fell 8-1 to the West Virginia Power.
After going 0-for-5 in his first two games as a professional, the Big 12 Player of the Year has batted .292 during his hitting streak. He has seven hits, including three doubles, four RBIs and a run in eight games.

Rockets fall again
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — The Portland Rockets
lost to the Ohio Warhawks for the second straight night Wednesday, dropping an 11-6 decision at Wittenberg University’s Carleton Davidson Stadium.
Portland (18-8), which lost 12-1 at home Tuesday to the Warhawks, fell behind 5-0 on the road. It pulled to within a run thanks to a four-run fifth inning keyed by a Randal Muhlenkamp double, but was unable to ever claim the lead.
Billy Geeslin, who struck out 12 batters in the Rockets’ 7-2 win over Ohio in June, took the loss despite recording eight strikeouts in five-plus innings.
Justin Marrero and Grant Hendershot each had three hits to lead the Portland offense, and Dalton Tinsley and Jay County High School graduate Thomas McCowan added two apiece.

Ponderosa advances
Ponderosa won the offensive war Wednesday, topping Pak-A-Sak 21-17 in the semifinal round of the Portland Junior League Rookie League baseball tournament. It advances to take on Williams Auto Parts in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. tonight.
Sam Myers powered Ponderosa, which jumped out to a 9-1 lead and never trailed. He notched two triples and a double while driving in four runs and scoring four times.
Allen Dues added four hits, including a pair of doubles, four RBIs and two runs.
Bryce Wenk was 4-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run, five RBIs and two runs for Pak-A-Sak, which finished at 7-7.[[In-content Ad]]
