Luers ends Starfires' season

BERNE - The South Adams High School volleyball team closed its season Thursday on its home floor.
The hosts of Class 2A's Sectional 38 dropped their opening-round match 25-14, 25-10, 25-18 to the Bishop Luers Knights.
Amber Neuenschwander finished with 15 assists and seven digs in the defeat. Karen Bollenbacher had 12 digs and five kills, and Taylor Farlow finished with six digs, four kills and four blocks.
Huey finishes third
MISHAWAKA - Jocelyn Huey led a group of local gymnasts with a third-place finish Saturday at the Fall Festival meet.
Huey scored a 9.2 to place third on the 9-11-year-old Level 4 vault. She also had career-best scores of 8.4 on the floor exercise for ninth place and 33.525 for the all-around.
Korinna Schindler, who qualified for the state meet with a 32.675 all around score, was fifth on the 9-11-year-old Level 5 vault at 8.35.
In the 7-8-year-old Level 5 competition Halle Hill added a pair of career-best scores of 8.45 on floor and 30.55 all-around, and Riley Leavell had her best score with a 7.65 on the floor.
Miller rolls 300 game
Eric Miller rolled his fourth career 300 game as part of his first 800 series Thursday at The Brown Bowl in Portland.
Miller rolled 27 consecutive strikes, five to close his opening game, 12 in a row for the perfect game and 11 more before falling just two balls short of a second straight perfect game in the third. His 300 and 289 scores in the final two games gave him a score of 814 for the series, marking just the ninth time a bowler has broken 800 at The Brown Bowl.[[In-content Ad]]
