Business Roundup

U.S. Sen. Dick Lugar (R-Ind.) is hosting a statewide job fair on May 9-10 in Indianapolis that will feature dozens of employers who are looking for candidates to fill law enforcement, defense and security related jobs.

The Dick Lugar Job Fair will be held at the 38th Infantry Division Armory, Indiana Army National Guard, 3912 W. Minnesota St., Indianapolis.

Because the job fair will be held at a military installation, attendees are required to have a photo ID to be admitted.

It will feature dozens of federal and local agencies, including Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security - INS, Department of State, Drug Enforcement Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Internal Revenue Service, National Parks Service, Secret Service and the U.S. Marshals Service.

There also will be recruiters from all branches of military service.

Agencies will be distributing information and taking applications from Indiana residents. Some employees will be conducting on-site interviews.

For more information on-line visit Lugar.senate.gov or call (317) 226-5555.

HOSPITAL ACCREDITATION

Blackford Hospital in Hartford City has achieved re-accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations.

The re-accreditation is based upon a February survey, and the hospital received a final score of 96.

The results demonstrate compliance with the Joint Commission’s nationally recognized healthcare standards. It was a decade ago when Blackford Hospital was first accredited, and it has maintained the standard for clinical quality.

The JCAHO standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvements in an organization’s performance and the outcomes of care.

CVS SHOWS INCREASE

The Wall Street Journal reported recently that the CVS Corp.’s March sales from stores open more than a year rose 2.3 percent, blunted by the shift of pre-Easter sales into April.

Same-store pharmacy sales rose 6.2 percent despite being hurt by 1.5 percentage points by recent generic-drug introductions.

REGIONAL BBB BUSY

The Better Business Bureau of Central Indiana reported recently that it had a 31 percent increase in service during 2002.

It had a total of 828,758 instances, which is up from 631,417 in 2001. These instances include reports, general advice, complaint counseling, closed complaints, advertising review and investigations.

This increase is mirrored by the nation’s Better Business Bureau in 2002. BBBs in the United States had a total of 41.5 million instances of service during the year, which is almost double the 21.4 million total instances of service provided in 2001.[[In-content Ad]]
