Magazine honors POET's Broin

Jeff Broin, the founder and executive chairman of POET, has been honored as the top brave thinker in agriculture over the last 30 years by Top Producer magazine.
Earlier this year, Top Producer put together a list of 30 top thinkers in agriculture. Readers then chose the person they believed made the most significant impact.
Broin was named the winner earlier this month.
POET is the parent company of POET Biorefining-Portland.
Bottle supplier
Verallia North America has been named the exclusive national beer bottle suppler for Lagunitas Brewing Company, a craft brewery now involved in a $25 million expansion.
The sixth-largest craft brewery in America, Laguitas is building a 300,000-square-foot brew house in Chicago which is expected to nearly quadruple its annual production capacity.
Verallia North America, which has a production facility in Dunkirk, will produce 12-ounce Heritage and 22-ounce Bomber beer bottles.
Still the lowest
Mercer County continued to have the lowest unemployment rate in Ohio during July, according to data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
The county’s jobless rate was 4.5 percent, down one-tenth of a percent from June.
Ohio’s average unemployment rate was 7.3 percent in July, while the national figure was 7.7 percent.
Pantry donation
Fort Recovery Equity and Land O’Lakes Inc. recently donated their 35,000th dozen carton of eggs to CALL Food Pantry in Mercer County.
The equity donates 900 dozen eggs a month to the food pantry, which is based in Celina, Ohio.
Voting open
Starlight Drive-in, located east of St. Henry, Ohio, on U.S. 127 in Mercer County, is involved in Honda’s Project Drive-in.
Honda is helping drive-in theaters, which must match the switch to digital projectors because celluloid films will no longer be produced after 2013.
The top five theaters in an online vote will receive a digital projector valued at up to $80,000.
