'Main Street' is focus at museum (08/26/2008)

Taking Note

A presentation about Route 66, "America's Main Street," will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the Jay County Historical Museum, 903 E. Main St., Portland.

Golf winners

Jay Randolph Developmental Services Inc. Building Brighter Futures Golf Ball Bounce was held Saturday at the Portland Golf Club. The winner of $750 was Todd Bowen from Evanston, Ill. Sue Schrock, Portland, won second place and Chris Grieshop, Portland, was the third place winner.

Teacher grants

The 2009 Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program is offering 120 awards of $8,000 each for kindergarten through 12th grade licensed teachers, principals and assistant principals, guidance counselors and librarians/media specialists to support creative projects that will take place during six weeks of summer.

A second level of funding will offer grants up to $25,000 to support projects to improve teachers' work with students.

Applicants must have at least three years of professional experience to be eligible.
