Mann, Dunn lead JC over Spartans

CONNERSVILLE — Three goals in a span of less than four minutes powered the Patriots to their second win of the year.
Jay County High School’s girls soccer team built a three-goal lead at halftime Tuesday as it cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Connersville Spartans.
The Patriots (2-0), who opened the season with a 3-1 win over Richmond, started their flurry at the 27:27 mark of the first half when senior Sammi Compton scored on an assist from Maddie Bailey.
Freshman Gabbie Mann pushed the advantage to 2-0 at the 24:39 mark, and scored again just 25 seconds later as she beat the Connersville goalie one-on-one.
JCHS was up 4-1 at the half and cruised to the five-goal win. Catherine Dunn and Mann each scored twice, and Emma Laux and Compton added one goal apiece.
Bailey notched two assists, and Alex Loy finished with one. Brooke Reynard made three saves.
In junior varsity action, Jay County won 2-0 behind goals from Tori Petschke and Carmen Lopez. Cydney Huey and Sophie Bader each had an assist.

Spikers fall to AC
MONROE — The Jay County volleyball team missed its chance at back-to-back wins over Adams County foes with a 25-17, 25-12, 25-22 loss Tuesday to the Adams Central Flying Jets.
The Patriots (2-4), who defeated South Adams in four games Monday, got six points on an 11-of-11 serving effort from Bre McIntire. She also had three kills.
Malarie Houck came up with 13 digs, and Ashley Motter followed with eight. Rachel Ferguson had four service points, and Katie Aker matched McIntire with three kills.
JCHS dropped the junior varsity match 25-15, 25-20. Ali Inman had eight digs, six service points and two aces, Mallory Marshall notched four points and two kills, Courtney Finnerty finished with nine digs and Lucy Hemmelgarn had five kills.

JV football loses
MUNCIE — The Patriots struggled to get any offense going Monday as they dropped a 32-0 decision to the host Delta Eagles.
Jay County trailed 8-0 after the first quarter, and the Eagles took control with 16 points in the second.
Wesley Hibbard led the JCHS offense with 60 yards on 10 carries, and Joey Link finished 3-for-6 passing for 35 yards.
Travis Osterholt recorded a sack, and Jon Blankenship had a forced fumble.[[In-content Ad]]
