FORT RECOVERY — The Marion Local Flyers blew open a close game in the final inning Thursday to defeat the Fort Recovery High School softball team 7-2.
Marion Local (8-7, 2-2 Midwest Athletic Conference) had a one-run lead before posting five runs in the top of the seventh inning. Andi Sutter suffered the loss, giving up seven runs — four earned — on 11 hits and four walks.
The Indians (8-11, 1-4 MAC) had just three fewer hits than the Flyers, but managed just single runs in the second and seventh innings.
Sutter went 3-for-3 with both Fort Recovery RBIs, and Janelle Schwieterman and Taylor Guggenbiller each had a double and a run. Olivia Schwieterman and Beca Tobe added two hits apiece.
SA falls in extras
PONETO — South Adams’ softball team went scoreless over the final four innings Thursday in a 3-2, eight-inning loss to the host Southern Wells Raiders.
The Starfires posted runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 2-1 lead. However, Southern Wells tied the game in the bottom of the fifth and then scored the game-winning run in the eighth.
Lily Taing took the loss, despite allowing just three hits and one earned run. The Starfires committed five errors in the defeat.
Maizy Switzer tripled and scored a run for SAHS (3-9), and Rachel Hirschy also scored. Brianna Nevil added a double.
Fort JV loses
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity softball team gave up three runs each in the first, second and fifth innings in a 10-5 loss Thursday to the host Marion Local Flyers.
Ashley Homan gave up 10 runs — six earned — on nine hits and four walks to take the loss.
Jackie Fullenkamp led the Tribe offense with three hits, including a double, and three runs. Homan went 4-for-5 with a double and a run, and Kelsee Ontrop had two hits and a run.
Jasmine Bechtol also notched two hits for FRHS.
Starfires awarded
South Adams was one of 11 high schools to earn honorable mention from the IHSAA for promoting sportsmanship for the winter season.
North Posey won the Red Gold IHSAA Sportsmanship Award for the 2010-11 winter season, following previous winners Valparaiso, Covington, Fishers and Lowell. The Starfires were named to the sportsmanship award honorable mention list along with Kokomo, Franklin County, Brownstown Central, Northwestern, North Daviess, Southport, South Decatur, Benton Central, Heritage Christian and Batesville.[[In-content Ad]]
