Marion tops South Adams boys soccer

BERNE - The Marion Giants took a quick lead and defeated the South Adams High School boys soccer team 12-1 Tuesday.

The visiting Giants scored three times in the first six minutes on the way to the win. The lone Starfire goal came from Zack Sharp on an assist from Matt Fox.

South Adams plays Jay County in the semifinal round of the Blackford sectional tournament Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Starfire spikers lose

MONROEVILLE - South Adams dropped its first match Tuesday in the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament hosted by Heritage.

The Starfires lost 25-7, 25-14 to the Woodlan Warriors.

Eagles bash MC

PARKER CITY - Keenan James had two touchdown runs and a scoring pass to lead the West Jay Middle School's football team to a 38-14 victory over host Monroe Central.

James reached the end zone on runs of 10 and 53 yards, and tossed a 14-yard TD pass to James Williams. He ran six times for 83 yards.

Seth Winget scored on 80-yard kickoff return, and Chaz McClain returned an interception 10 yards for a TD. Dan Walter ran for three 2-point conversions and led the defense with six tackles.

FR volleyball loses

NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio - The Fort Recovery eighth grade volleyball team fell 25-6, 25-19 Tuesday to the New Knoxville Rangers, and the seventh graders lost 25-11, 25-8.

Lexi Schmitz paced the Tribe eighth graders (0-11) with seven points, three kills and a block. Sierra Pugh added three points and two assists, and Morgan Dues totaled two assists and a dig.

Michaela Fullenkamp had two assists and two digs for the seventh grade Indians (3-11). Makayla Grover finished with four kills, Tori Lennartz notched two kills and Cassidy Rammel added two assists.

EJ runners win

DUNKIRK - East Jay's cross country teams picked up victories Monday at a four-team meet hosted by West Jay.

The Chief girls scored 21 points to finish ahead of Delta (48) and Wes-Del (79). In the boys competition EJMS scored 41 points, followed by Delta (46), Wes-Del (52) and the host Eagles (98).

Zane Shreve had the top finish for the county schools with his victory by one second in the boys race at 11 minutes, 3 seconds to lead the East Jay boys. Kyler Carvel finished third for West Jay in 11:38.

Emi Minnich paced the EJMS girls with a time of 12:20 for second place, and Miranda Gerber was sixth for the Eagles in 13:03.

Abigail Johnson placed third behind Minnich in 12:32, Alex Loy was fourth in 12:33 and Megan Wellman took fifth in 12:41. Amber Huelskamp completed the victory in seventh at 13:07.

Carroll was sixth behind Shreve for the EJMS boys. Nicholas Leuthold was ninth in 12:34 ahead of Austin Muhlenkamp (12th - 12:49) and Tyler Wendel (13th - 12:50).

Desiree Parfitt finished 20th for WJMS in the girls race in 14:39. In the boys competition behind Carvel were Skylar Newsome (26th - 13:46), Darrian Bechtol (30th - 14:01), Skyler Johnson (31st - 14:08) and Caleb Kraft (40th - 14:31).[[In-content Ad]]
