Marsh selects new CEO
Business roundup
Marsh Supermarkets has named a new chairman, chief executive officer, and president.
Thomas R. O’Boyle, who comes to Marsh from Great Atlantic and Pacific (A&P), has more than 25 years of experience in supermarket merchandising and marketing.
“I am honored by this opportunity to lead Marsh, a company that is clearly on the right path toward providing customers with the best grocery shopping experience possible,” O’Boyle said in a prepared statement.
Marsh is the parent company of MainStreet Market in Portland and traces its roots back to New Pittsburg in northern Randolph County. One of its earliest supermarkets was in Portland.
O’Boyle has been executive vice president of merchandising, marketing, supply, and logistics for A&P. Prior to that he held senior executive positions at Sears Holdings and Albertsons-Jewel/Osco Food and Drugs.
He succeeds Bill Holsworth, former COO of Marsh who has been acting as interim CEO during the executive search.
Marsh is owned by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners. The company operates 64 Marsh stores, three O’Malia Supermarkets, and 26 MainStreet Markets in Indiana and Ohio.
Meeting set
There will be a luncheon meeting of the board of directors of the Alliance for Strategic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Henry County WorkOne office, 3011 S. 14th St., New Castle.
Helping out
Vectren, the Indiana-based energy holding company that provides natural gas service to Dunkirk and Redkey, sent a 40-member gas crew to help restore utility services to customers in New York affected by Hurricane Sandy.
That crew will be returning home soon and will be relieved by a second team of more than 40 that headed out Friday afternoon.
The new crew of Vectren employees includes fitters, welders, service specialists, and fitter equipment operators. The crews have been assisting National Grid, an electric and gas utility company that serves New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
Hospice month
Local hospice organizations are observing National Hospice and Palliative Care Month in November.
POET approves
POET CEO Jeff Lautt expressed support Friday for the EPA’s decision on the Renewable Fuel Standard waiver.
“The EPA today made a sound decision in denying a waiver of the Renewable Fuel Standard,” Lautt said in a prepared statement. “As studies have shown, a waiver would have likely had little to no impact on commodities prices in the aftermath of the recent drought. This effort was nothing more than the latest attempt by renewable fuel opponents to undermine policy that has helped make America stronger,” Lautt’s statement said.
“Today’s decision means the Renewable Fuel Standard remains strong and stable policy, and our industry can move forward with greater confidence, continuing to invest in new technology to make biofuels production even more efficient and commercializing fuel production from cellulosic feedstocks such as crop residue and other plant material.”
POET’s biofuels division is moving forward with construction of the joint venture’s first commercial cellulosic biofuels plant that will use corn cobs, leaves, husk and some stalk to produce renewable fuel.[[In-content Ad]]
