May, Brunswick power Fort Recovery

SPENCERVILLE, Ohio - Abby May and Holly Brunswick each won a pair of events Tuesday to lead the Fort Recovery High School girls track team to a double victory.

The Indians posted 68.5 points to win a three-team meet over Spencerville (62) and Crestview (41.5).

The Tribe boys got its only three wins from Aaron Vagedes scored 36.5 points to finish last behind the host Bearcats (88.5) and Crestview (49).

May came through with her victories in a pair of close races, edging Erika Frey of Crestview by just one tenth of a second in the 300-meter hurdles in 50 seconds flat. The freshman also took the 100 dash with a time of 13.5.

Brunswick's victories came in the field events as she took the long jump at 14 feet, 8 inches ahead of teammate Amy Link. She was also first in the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches with Kelsey Fiely in second place.

Kylie Kahlig led a sweep of the 200 dash for the FRHS girls ahead of Link and Amber Heitkamp in 28.5.

Vagedes matches Brunswick by winning both jumping events on the boys side, clearing the bar at 5 feet, 8 inches in the high jump and leaping 18 feet, 5 ¾ inches in the long jump. He was also first in the 400 dash in 54.8.

SA girls top Heritage

BERNE - The South Adams Middle School girls track team rolled to a 78-31 victory Wednesday over the visiting Heritage Patriots while the boys team fell 64-45.

Michaela Rupp led South Adams sweeps of both hurdle events with Brandi Toland and Olivia Turner, winning the 100 in 18.4 seconds and the 200 in 34.8. Hannah Taing took the top spot in the throwing events with a tosses of 55 feet, 11 inches in the discus and 24 feet, 8 inches in the shot put.

Turner added a win at 4 feet, 4 inches in the high jump. Erica Miller took the 800 run in 3:01, and Alaina Johnston was first in the long jump at 13 feet leading a sweep ahead of Kelli Lehman and Lauren Smith.

Nick Busse earned two of the three victories for the South Adams boys, taking the long jump at 15 feet, 8 ½ inches and the 100 dash in 12.81. Daniel Velsaco was first in the 1,600 run in 5:54 with teammates Clayton Rhoades and Xavier Rupp second and third.[[In-content Ad]]
