Taking Note

Local artist Steve McClung, Portland, will have an opening reception on Sunday, June 6, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Clark Art Gallery at the Honeywell Center, 275 West Market Street, Wabash.

His exhibit will be on view from Thursday, June 3, through Monday, July 5.

LIBRARY NEWS

The Jay County Public Library will have their summer reading programs from Monday, June 7, to Saturday, July 17.

Registration runs from Monday, June 7, through Saturday, June 19.

“Hooked on Reading” is for infants to those entering fifth grade. There will be a swim party for those reaching their reading goal.

“Make Waves with Books” if for teens entering sixth through 12th grade. Teens will have a swim/luau for those who read at least four books.

“Goodies for Grownups” is for adults, 18 and older. Everytime you finish a book or book on cassette, you can fill out an entry form for the weekly prize drawing.

There will also be programs on Mondays at 11 a.m. for children, preschool through elementary age on a first come, first served basis. June 7 will be Ronald McDonald. June 14 will be fish crafts. June 21 will be “The One that Got Away” storytelling. June 28 will be Aquatic Bingo. July 5 will be Fishing games. July 12 will be Aquatic Animals on Display.

Programs for teens will be held on Fridays at 2 p.m. and again on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. for teens entering sixth through 12th grade. Sign-up is required. On Friday, June 11, and Tuesday, June 15, will be tie-dye, bring your own material to dye. On Friday, June 25, and Tuesday, June 29, will be cartooning how-to. On Friday, July 9, and Tuesday, July 13, will be crafts, such as candles, sun-catchers and candy making.

There will also be Saturday specials. On June 12, will be Great Lakes Native American Indian Cultural Program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for age seven to 12. Bring a sack lunch. On June 26, will be patriotic crafts, anytime between 2 and 4 p.m. On July 10, and interactive mystery, “Who’s a Fraidy Cat?” will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. for ages eight through 12. Refreshments will be served.

Story time for infants through age three will be at 11 a.m. on June 10, June 17, June 24, July 1, July 8, and July 15.
