McFarland leads East Jay boys (04/08/08)

Brock McFarland won three events Monday, leading the East Jay boys track team to a 75-25 victory over Muncie Northside. The girls teams finished in a 50-50 tie.
McFarland owned the field events, winning the long jump at 15 feet 10 ¾ inches with teammates Cade Price and Cody Bellis in second and third respectively. He also took the high jump at 5 feet, 4 inches, and the shot put with a toss of 39 feet, 8 inches.
David Rosenbeck completed the Chiefs' sweep of the field events, taking the discus at 90 feet, 7 inches. He was also first in the 400-meter dash in 1-minute, 8.3 seconds.
Austin Bentz also added two wins, finishing first in the 1,600 run in 5:48 and the 800 run in 2:45.8. Jordan McBride was first in the 200 dash, and EJMS also won the 4x400 relay.
Katie Simmons was the lone double winner for the girls team. She paced a sweep of the 800 run in 2:56.9 ahead of Tiffany Huelskamp and Abigail Johnson. She was also first in the 1,600 run at 6:33.4 with Johnson second.
Adding single wins were Morgan Link (hurdles), Maria Murphy (shot put) and Michaela Long (discus).
Takeki Saito and Trent Whitenack each won two events to lead the boys B team to a 67-18 win. Alex Loy scored a couple of victories as the girls B team won 63-37.
Two break records
ST. HENRY, Ohio - Aaron Vagedes and Becca Tobe turned in record-breaking performances Monday for Fort Recovery.
Vagedes set a new school record and won three events as the boys team finished behind the host Redskins and Minster in three-team action. Tobe turned in the only win for the girls, who finished second, in record-breaking fashion.
The new school record for Vagedes came in the long jump, where he flew 18 feet, 3 inches. He also won the 200-meter dash in 25.95 and the 400 dash at 57.37.
Tobe powered the girls team with her high-jump effort, winning the event and setting a school record at 5 feet even. Kylie Kahlig finished second in the shot put and 400 dash.[[In-content Ad]]
