McMillan gets only Jay victory (05/05/06)

DUNKIRK — Jordan McMillan picked up the lone victory for either Jay County school at the West Jay Relays Thursday.

East Jay Middle School’s girls track team placed second in a tight race, finishing with 93 points at the six-team meet. Adams Central won with 104 points, and South Adams was just two points behind EJMS in third. West Jay finished sixth with 18 points.

McMillan’s victory came in the high jump where she was two inches better than the rest of the field. She cleared the bar at a winning height of four feet, 11 inches.

She was also second in the long jump, finishing just one-half inch behind South Adams’ Lauren Rich at 13 feet, 51/2 inches.

Mollie May added a runner-up effort in the discus at 71 feet, one-half inch, and Kari Hemmelgan was second behind Rich in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.93 seconds.

East Jay was also second in three relays.

Brittany Muhlenkamp had the lone top-three individual finish for West Jay. She had a toss of 66 feet, six inches in the discus.

Rich added a third victory at 25 feet, 51/2 inches in the shot put, and Hannah Moore was first for South Adams in the 1,600 run in 6-minutes, 0.38 seconds.

Chiefs split with MC

PARKER CITY — East Jay’s girls scored a 75-25 victory over Monroe Central Wednesday while the boys suffered a 58-42 defeat to the host Golden Bears.

Jordan McMillan again paced the girls, finishing first in the 200-meter dash (28 seconds), long jump (12 feet six inches) and high jump (four feet, eight inches). Kari Hemmelgarn added victories in the hurdles (17.7) and the 400 dash (one-minute, nine seconds).

McMillan, Lindsay Shannon, Ranae Ray and Laura Castillo teamed to win the 4x100 relay in 56.6, and Hemmelgarn, Katie Butcher, Lindsay Moser and Loryn Horn took the 4x400 relay in 4:56.

Other victories came from Butcher in the 800 run (2:43), Castillo in the 100 dash (13.7) and Jenna Wilson in the shot put (27 feet, one inch).

Nick Stevens won the high jump (five feet, one inch) and Eric Caldwell took the 100 dash (12.1) to lead the boys team. They joined Garrett Krieg and Brad Horn for first in the 4x100 relay in 52.6.[[In-content Ad]]
