Meet for coffee at JCPL
Taking Note
A new tradition is beginning this year at Jay County Public Library.
The Friends of the Library will offer complimentary coffee and donuts on the second Saturday of each month from 10 to 11 a.m. Stop by the Community Room on Jan. 12 to drink coffee, chat with friends or read the newspaper.
JCPL board meetings will be held the second Monday of each month at 4 p.m. in the Community Room. The public is welcome.
The Book Discussion Group is reading “In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror and an American Family in Hitler’s Berlin” by Erik Larson this month. The group will meet on Monday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. to discuss the book. New members are welcome to the group.
Music Works
Music Works individual and group instruction at Arts Place in Portland begins on Jan. 14.
Individual classes are available in violin, viola, cello, harp, woodwinds, brass, percussion, voice, guitar and piano.
Group instruction is available for the following classes: Brassissimo (a brass ensemble), Brown Paper Sax (saxophone ensemble), Community Band, Distant Thunder Percussion Ensemble (advanced), Distant Rumble Percussion Ensemble (intermediate), Eastern Breeze Flute Ensemble, Introduction to Violin, 2nd Grade Piano Lab (Blackford County only), Stateline Singers and Vox Altus (adult choir).
Art Works classes are available for the following: Handbuilding With Clay, Intermediate Throwing Clay on Wheel, Beginning Throwing Clay on Wheel for Kids, Beginning Throwing Clay on Wheel for Adults, Painting with Watercolor, Painting with Oils, Painting Mini Barn Quilts, Polymer Clay for Kids, Intro to Polymer Clay for Adults, Macrame Bracelets, Basic Wood Turning, Beginning Jewelry for Kids and Beginning Jewelry for Adults.
