Meiring gets OK to expand

Business Roundup

A Fort Recovery poultry farm recently received permission from the state to build manure storage and increase its flock.
Meiring Poultry Farm LLC, 2062 Watkins Road, which is owned by William and Janet Knapke, was given the go ahead to remodel existing barns to accommodate increasing its pullets from 330,000 to 450,000.
The farm’s remodeling plan also includes removing existing high-rise cages for hens and installing belt-battery cages, which will allow manure to drop onto a conveyor belt and be removed.
The new manure storage building will increase storage capacity from roughly 260,000 cubic feet to about 354,000 cubic feet.
The farm has been the recipient of conservation and environmental awards during its operation.

Earnings up
Wal-Mart recently reported a 9 percent increase in third-quarter net income.
The world’s largest retailer has continued to woo back shoppers by reemphasizing its low prices, but its momentum has slowed as the company deals with an uncertain global economy.
The company earned $3.63 billion, or $1.08 per share, in the quarter ended Oct. 31. Net sales rose 3.4 percent to $113.2 billion. But the company’s fourth-quarter profit outlook fell short of Wall Street expectations and shares dropped 5 percent in early trading.[[In-content Ad]]
