A celebration for Girl Scouts in Jay County will be held with the theme "1940's U.S.O. Canteen." Laurel Walter, leader of Pennville troop no. 840, is asking Girl Scouts from the 1940's and 1950's to loan pictures and memorabilia from that time for the event.

The event will be held Friday, May 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Pennville School Gym. Mildred May, a World War II veteran and former Girl Scout leader, will be the guest speaker.

Scouts will learn three dances from the 1940's, write to soldiers in the military, make homemade butter and get their picture taken as a veteran Girl Scout or World War II service woman.

The first 50 girls to call and register at (260) 731-2025, by May 15, will receive the book "American Girl's: Welcome to Molly's World."
