Mercer jobless rate 5.7 percent

While Jay County posted jobless rate of 7.6 percent in October, neighboring Mercer County’s rate was 5.7 percent, the second lowest in the state of Ohio.
Only Geauga County with a rate of 5.4 percent had a brighter employment picture than Mercer County.
Darke County, which adjoins the southeastern portion of Jay County, posted an October jobless rate of 8.4 percent, compared to 8.2 percent in September.
Ohio’s jobless rate overall was 9 percent, compared to 8.6 percent in Indiana.

Networking luncheon
Donald Gillespie of the Jay County Fair Board will be the featured speaker at Tuesday’s noon Jay County Chamber of Commerce networking luncheon at Jay County Hospital.
Gillespie will be talking about current and future plans for the fairgrounds.

Named to board
An executive with more than 30 years experience in the energy commodity industry has been named to the board of directors of Tyson Foods.
Gaurdie E. Banister Jr., 54, is currently president and DCO of Aera Energy LLC, a $4 billion oil and gas producer that is jointly owned by Shell and ExxonMobile.
Other members of the Tyson board include chairman John Tyson, Kathleen Bader, Jim Kever, Kevin McNamara, Robert Thurber, Brad T. Sauer, Barbara Tyson, and Albert Zapanta.
Founded in 1935, Tyson Foods operates Tyson Mexican Original in Portland.
It is the second-largest food production company in the Fortune 500.

Crown moves jobs
Crown Equipment Corp. is planning to transfer 110 workers to its Minster, Ohio, facility by late spring.
The employees will build wiring harnesses for lift trucks manufactured by Crown. They are currently working in a smaller facility in Fort Loramie, Ohio.

Opening celebrated
The Berne Chamber of Commerce marked the opening of Amishville Essen Platz Restaurant and Gift Shop with a ribbon cutting for its new operators, Chris and Ginger Englehardt.

Food donated
Tyson Foods Inc. this week donated 30,000 pounds of chicken to the Arkansas Rice Depot as part of an effort to feed the needy.
The Arkansas Rice Depot has been working to alleviate hunger in Arkansas for 29 years.[[In-content Ad]]
