ME's Zoo opening (4/16/04)

Taking Note

ME’s Zoo in Parker City will open for the 2004 season on Saturday, April 17. “Continuing the Dream” is the theme of the zoo in memory of Max (the M in ME’s Zoo), who founded the zoo.

The season will feature an “Animal Encounter” showcase with Paul Cross, head zoo keeper and animal trainer. He will educate and entertain visitors of all ages.

White tigers, Bobbi and Masai, will be there again and a new kangaroo named Miracle.

There is a picnic area, including a 40’ by 60’ picnic shelter for use, also a playground area, a petting zoo and a gift shop.

Parking is free and handicapped facilities are available.

The zoo is currently taking reservations for school groups. Hours are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. through September. It is closed on Mondays and Fridays. Admission is $4.50 for children under 12 and $5.50 for adults. A 50 cent discount is given on Wednesdays.

Signs to the zoo are posted on State Road 32 East of Selma, State Road 36 West of Losantville and Ind. 1 South of Farmland.

OPEN HOUSE

An open house will be held on Thursday, April 22, from noon to 6 p.m. at the Jay County Public Library as part of National Library Week. Tours and OPAC instruction will be available and refreshments will be served.

An organizational meeting of the Friends of the Fort Recovery Library will be held Tuesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at the library. The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) will hold its annual Hotline on April 18, 19, and 20. The calls are toll free for parents, grandparents, or anyone with a question to ask about schools, children and education.

MEMORY LOSS

The program “Beginning the Journey with Memory Loss” will be held Tuesday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Randolph County Hospital, 430 Greenville Ave., Winchester. The program is for families and individuals who suspect memory loss or have recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Call 1-800-272-3900 to register.

CIVIC CENTER

The Muncie Ballet Studio will present the “Footloose Musical Review” on Saturday, April 17, at 6 p.m. It will be held at the Community Civic Center, Edmund Burke Ball Auditorium, 520 E. Main St., Muncie.
