Miller leads runner-up SA

MARION — The South Adams High School boys cross country team had four runners place in the top 20 Saturday in IHSAA Regional 7 on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University as the Starfires earned a berth in the New Haven semi-state.
The boys team placed second with 59 points behind Huntington North because of a sixth-runner tiebreaker. Bellmont placed third with 104 points.
South Adams’ girls team was 10th, and Kara Seffernick earned a berth in the semi-state race with an 18th place finish.
The top five teams and top 10 runners from non-qualifying teams from each regional advance to the semi-state race.
Sawyer Miller and Bailey McIntire placed third and fourth respectively for the SAHS boys. Miller crossed the finish line in 16 minutes, 1.9 seconds, while Bailey finished two seconds later.
Following Miller and Bailey were Brody Shane (16:33 – sixth), Daniel Velasco (17:04 – 16th) and Clayton Rhoades (17:43 – 39th).
Seffernick crossed the finish line in 20:20, and Lily Shane was 51st in 21:47.
Following Shane were Katelin Hawbaker (22:09 – 65th), Makenna Seuenschwander (22:20 – 68th) and Sydney Zuber (22:37 – 71st) for South Adams.

Tribe girls runner-up
OTTAWA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls cross country team was the runner-up Saturday at the Division III district race at Ottawa Park to earn a regional berth.
Minster won the 10-team race with a near-perfect score of 17. The Tribe scored 85 points, 20 points ahead of Marion Local and Spencerville, which were third and fourth respectively. Marion Local placed third on a sixth-runner tiebreaker.
The Fort Recovery boys team placed sixth with 163 points. Columbus Grove won the 14-team race with 45 points. New Bremen was second with St. Henry third and Coldwater fourth.
The top four teams and the top 16 individuals advance to regional.
Elle Sutter led the Tribe girls with a seventh place finish in 20 minutes, 47 seconds.
 Heitkamp (21:58) and Julie Wendel (22:03) finished back-to-back in 13th and 14th place, while Grace Gehle was 16th in 22:07.
Katie Braun (23:47) rounded out the top five runners for the Indians.

Travis Sutter led the pack for the Fort Recovery boys, placing 17th in 18:03, one spot outside of the cutoff to advance to regional.
Following Sutter were Isaac Siegrist (18:48 – 24th), Derek Sutter (18:51 – 27th), Joey Gonzalez (19:45 – 44) and Sam Huelskamp (20:04 – 53rd).

Three Stars earn All-ACAC
South Adams had three soccer players earn All-Allen County Athletic Conference honors for the 2013 season.
Tyler Sprunger earned first-team All-ACAC as goalkeeper for the Starfire boys, while Alaina Johnston and Michaela Rupp earned first-team honors for the South Adams girls.
Johnston earned the honor splitting time between goalkeeper and forward, while Rupp was awarded for midfield and forward.
Earning second-team honors for the Starfire boys were forwards Marco Vaszquez and Dustin Dellinger and midfielder Collin Lahr.
Defenders Madison Morgan and Chelsea Moore earned second-team nods for the South Adams girls.
Sharon Balsiger was named to the second-team, splitting time between the midfield and forward.

Tribe falls to Coldwater
VAN WERT, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team fell to the Midwest Athletic Conference rival Coldwater Cavaliers on Saturday in the Division III sectional championship match, 25-11, 25-14, 25-15.
The Cavs, ranked seventh in Division III by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches’ Association, advance to the district semifinal at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Kalida, Ohio to play Ottawa-Glandorf.
As the No. 1 seed in the Lincolnview sectional, Coldwater finished the season 21-3 overall and 6-3 MAC.
In their match Oct. 8, the Cavaliers defeated the Indians in three games, 25-11, 25-10, 25-18.
Fort Recovery sophomore Kendra Siefring was honorable mention for the All-MAC team, which was announced Sunday.[[In-content Ad]]
