Minnear leaves CR for Ashland paper (12/08/07)

Travis Minnear has left The Commercial Review as of Friday, Dec. 7.
The 22-year-old served about six months as a county reporter with The CR. He decided to take a job offer with The Ashland Times-Gazette in Ashland, Ohio. He is a native of Mansfield, Ohio, which neighbors Ashland.
Minnear graduated magna cum laude from The Ohio State University in June with a bachelor's degree in journalism. In Ashland, he will cover local politics in addition to general assignments.
Taking tour
The American Society for Quality will tour the Purdue University College of Technology in Anderson.
The college is located at 2705 Enterprise Drive. Dinner at the school's café will start at 6 p.m. The tour will follow.
ASQ Section 904 includes Jay, Randolph, Blackford, Delaware, Grant, Madison, Henry and Wayne counties.
New owners
A St. Henry, Ohio, couple has purchased a former comedy club south of Celina, Ohio, and transform it into a club for teen-agers.
Jason and Alicia Romer purchased The Carousel Dinner Comedy Club, 3769 U.S. 127, at a sheriff's sale in October.
The new business is expected to open in the spring. The couple hopes to create a dance club complete with laser light beams and fog machines. They also hope to have a disc jockey, bands, video games, pool tables, air hockey tables, darts and food.
The new business has not yet been named.
The Romer family owns entertainment facilities in Celina, St. Henry and Greenville, Ohio.
New treatment offered
Swiss Village Retirement Community, Berne, is now offering a new treatment to its patients who suffer from dysphagia, a swallowing disorder.
VitalStim Therapy uses electrical stimulation to train the throat muscles needed for swallowing. Small electrical currents are applied externally to the neck and stimulate swallowing muscles.
"VitalStim Therapy is truly a breakthrough in treating dysphagia," Meghann Guyer, Swiss Village speech language pathologist, said in a recent press release. "Since introducing VitalStim, we have seen some exceptional results."
Conference set
The Eastern Indiana Regional Workforce Board, the office of Community and Rural Affairs, Ball State University and Purdue University will hold a conference Wednesday at Ball State.
During the event, officials with new companies will have the opportunity to make a practice financing pitch to an expert panel. The event is part of the StartUp Indiana project.
