Portland-based Minnich Poultry recently donated thousands of eggs to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Indiana.
Minnich Poultry gave 54,000 eggs to the food bank, which serves eight counties in the regions and distributes millions of pounds of food each year.
Grand re-opening
McDonald's in Berne celebrated a grand re-opening with ribbon cutting after completing renovations.
The restaurant has been open in Berne for 17 years and has been operated by owners Karl and Chris Schmitz for the past 12 years.

Verizon Communications Inc. announced a new station offering coverage of New York and New Jersey teams.
YES Network, which carries New York Yankees and New Jersey Nets games, will be available on Verizion's FiOS TV Extreme HD package, which will cost $57.99. The coverage will also be available through Verizon's video-on-demand library.

A total of 29 business and 23 restaurants in Adams County were honored by the Anti-Tobacco Coalition and Substance Abuse Awareness Council for their no-smoking policies.
The businesses were recognized at an event last week at the Boys and Girls Club in Decatur.
Increased ethanol
Members of the Indiana Congressional delegation were part of a group urging the Environmental Protection Agency this week to increase the standard amount of ethanol in gasoline to 15 percent, up from 10 percent.
Three Indiana congressmen were among 28 lawmakers to file the letter asking for the increased limits.
A study by energy group Growth Energy showed an increase to E15 could create 360 new ful-time jobs in Indiana and have an economic impact of $382 million.
Networking luncheon
The next Jay County Chamber of Commerce luncheon will take place Tuesday.
Sandy Bubp from the Jay County Historical Society will present the program, "When There Were 8," about the upcoming 2009 Heritage Festival which will focus on Jay County's eight former high schools.
The luncheon will begin at noon in the Jay County Hospital Conference Room. Cost is $8.
Taste of Jay County
The Jay County Chamber of Commerce recently announced tentative plans for its first ever Taste of Jay County to be held in October.

Briner Building Inc., Bluffton was awarded the Butler High Performance and Million Dollar Builder awards for 2008 at a regional sales meeting.
The awards were presented to Chris Elser, vice president of project development for Briner Building.

McDonald's reported nearly a 4 percent rise in profits during the first quarter.
Profits rose to $979.5 million, 87 cents per share, up from $946.1 million last year. That showing exceeded analyst expectations of 82 cents per share.
New lines such as McCafe coffee drinks have helped capture additional market share for the hamburger powerhouse.

The General Store in Pennville will have a grand opening weekend from May 8 to 10.
The store, an expansion from its location at the Jay Garment Antique Mall, is located at 115 South Union St., Pennville. The shop offers primitives, home décor, gifts and more. During the grand opening weekend, a free gift will be given out with any purchase of $20 or more.
Hours during the grand opening will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Normal business hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, or open by appointment by calling (260) 251-2251.

Net income fell to $20 million from $23 million the year prior, but outpaced expectations by $2 million. Earnings were helped by a high volume of residential mortgages loans.
