Minus Abbott, Patriots fall to NC

NEW CASTLE — The New Castle Trojans shut out the Jay County High School boys soccer team 3-0 Tuesday, and the Patriots lost more than just the game.
Sophomore forward and leading scorer Alex Abbott, who had hat tricks in each of the first two JCHS games, left midway through the second half with an upper-body injury and did not return.
New Castle (2-2) scored 14 minutes into the game and added two second-half insurance goals to seal the win.
Jacob Schlosser led the Patriots (1-1-1) with two shots on goal. Zane Shreve, Colton Compton and Trey Teagle each added one.
Kyle Dirksen had six saves for the Patriots, who return to the pitch at 5 p.m. Thursday at Delta.

Fort volleyball wins
UNION CITY, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team defeated the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks in straight games Tuesday, 25-17, 25-17, 25-10.
Kendra Siefring led the Indians (2-2) with 10 kills, including seven in the first game. Cassidy Rammel and Sierra Pugh combined for 34 assists, with Rammel racking up 21.
Defensively, Tori Lennartz led the Tribe with four blocks, and Caley Schoenherr added 11 digs. Lennartz also added nine digs and six kills, while Rammel tallied eight kills and five digs.
The Indians return to action at 5:30 p.m. Thursday as they host St. John’s.

Starfires lose 4-1
BERNE — The Bellmont Squaws (1-2) scored three first-half goals and netted another in the second half Tuesday as they defeated the South Adams girls soccer team 4-1.
Sophomore Madison Morgan’s only shot on goal found the twine in the second half for the Starfires (0-4) to prevent a shutout.
Alaina Johnston stopped 27 Bellmont shots as goalkeeper for South Adams.
The Starfires return to the pitch at 5 p.m. Thursday as they host the Garrett Railroaders.

SA bounces back
The South Adams volleyball team played five games in back-to-back days, but this time the Starfires came out on top. After falling in five games Monday to Jay County, SAHS (4-4) defeated the Eastbrook Panthers Tuesday, 25-11, 14-25, 25-17, 26-28, 15-13.
Cady Farlow and Alyssa Bluhm led the Starfires with 19 and 16 kills respectively. Bluhm also recorded 22 assists, 13 digs, seven aces and three blocks while Farlow added 15 digs and four blocks. Lauren Smith also tallied 13 digs.
South Adams returns to the court at 6 p.m. Thursday on the road at the Bellmont Squaws.[[In-content Ad]]
