Miscues hurt FR vs. Blazers

NEW PARIS — Errors destroyed the Indians Saturday as they lost a couple of games despite racking up 25 hits.
The Fort Recovery High School softball team committed 10 miscues as they lost 8-4 and 12-4 to the host National Trail Blazers in a double-header.
The Tribe (2-4) had 1-0 leads in both games, but gave up nine unearned runs on the day. National Trail scored seven runs in the third and four innings combined to take control of the first game, and rallied with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the second.
Kendra Brunswick had two hits, including a home run, five RBIs and two runs in game two to lead FRHS, which had three more hits than the Blazers on the day. Janelle Schwieterman notched a triple, a single, two runs and an RBI in the opener.
Andi Sutter took the loss in game one, giving up seven hits and a walk in four innings. Beca Tobe suffered the game-two defeat, allowing six hits in three innings.

FR baseball falls
FORT RECOVERY — Both games ended after five innings Saturday as the Fort Recovery High School baseball team lost 19-0 and 17-1 to the Crestview Knights.
Ryan Gaerke took the loss in the opener, giving up 10 runs — nine earned — on four hits and six walks in one-plus innings. Shane Pottkotter gave up 12 runs, only half of which were earned, on 10 hits and three walks to take the game-two defeat.
The Indians (0-5) managed just four hits, with Kent Retz recording a single and a run in game two. Collin O’Dell had the only RBI with a walk in the fourth inning.
Hayden Pottkotter had two hits on the day, and Kent Retz added one.


Tribe JV drops two
FORT RECOVERY — The Indian Lake Lakers were too much for the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team Saturday, defeating the Indians 14-0 and 19-3 in five innings Saturday.
Maleia Fullenkamp smacked a couple of hits in the second game, and Stacy Stammen singled and drove in a pair of runs. Other hits came from Ashley Homan, Kendra Stammen, Jasmine Bechtol, and Xaiven Overton.
The Indians went without a hit in the opener.
Homan suffered both losses, although she struck out five batters in the opener.

Cheerleaders chosen
Try-outs for the 2011-12 Jay County High School cheerleading squad were held Saturday.
Making the varsity squad for next season were seniors Lyndee Evans, Mollie May, Nikka Chaney, Darian Barnett, Krista Taylor, Jessi Chittum, Nachelle Miller and Shelby Pryor. They will be joined by juniors Makayla Jobe, Lauren Runkle, Jenna Barber and Alexis Cook, and sophomores Olivia Cash, Ericka Reynolds and Rachel Vogler.
Sophomores on the junior varsity squad will be Kaitlyn Miller, Charis Beitler, Brea Burcham and Cydney Huey. Joining them will be freshmen Morgan Brown, Rhianon Mills, Alexis Murrell, Carli Ostrowski, Chelsea Russell and Laurann Schoenlein.[[In-content Ad]]
