Paul Caffee
Paul “Eugene” Caffee, 87, 3039 East 900 South, Geneva, died Saturday at Swiss Village in Berne.
Born on July 15, 1916 to John and Caroline Caffee in Chattanooga, Ohio, he was married Sept. 21, 1938 to Deloris M. Branstetter, who survives.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Chattanooga and attended Willshire High School. He was a retired farmer from Mercer County, Ohio and Adams County. He was a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: a daughter, Mrs. Philip (Judith Kay) Baumgartner, Mansfield, Ohio; two sons, Dennis Caffee, Geneva, and Robert L. Caffee, Berne; a brother, Donald Caffee of Willshire, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call today from 2 to 8 p.m. at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, Geneva.
Services are Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, with Pastor Randy Swanson presiding. Burial will take place at M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne.
Memorials can be made to Zion Women of the Church, or to a place of the donor’s choice.
Mahlon Houser
Mahlon Houser, 94, 6092 North U.S. 27, Bryant, died Friday evening at Swiss Village in Berne.
Born June 19, 1909, he was the son of George and Clara (Spade) Houser.
He was married on June 22, 1935 to Eva Gibson, who survives.
He was a farmer and a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Mrs. Clifford (Nancy) Ball of Portland; a sister, Mary Manor of Portland; four step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland with burial in the Gravel Hill Cemetery west of Bryant.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 3-5 p.m.
Memorials can be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Everett Gaskill
Everett M. Gaskill, 79, 1529 W. Lancaster St., Bluffton, died Sunday. He was the brother of local residents.
Born May 4, 1924, he was the son of John F. and Iney Jane (Ramseyer) Gaskill.
He was married June 18, 1960 in Eaton to Mary Louise Carpenter, who preceded him in death.
Gaskill attended Chester Township Schools in Wells County. He had worked for Overhead Door in Hartford City for 23 years, and also spent time as a farmer in Huntington County.
Survivors include two daughters; two sons; two brothers, including Joseph Paul Gaskill of Portland; and four sisters, including Dorothy Steen of Portland; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel, located at 109 W. Windsor St. in Montpelier.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Glancy Funeral Homes, Walker Chapel.
Burial will take place in Union Cemetery in Eaton.
Raymond Doty
Raymond Doty, 66, 7016 East 300 North, Montpelier, died Sunday at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. He was the brother of a Jay County resident.
He was born on July 30, 1937 as the son of Clyde and Ethel (Chapman) Doty.
He was married on May 20, 1966 to Greta Coffman, who survives.
He retired in July of 2002 from Sprong Farms in Muncie and also was employed at Corning Glass in Bluffton. Doty attended Blackford County Schools.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters; three brothers; two sisters, including Bernice Havens of Jay County; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Montpelier with the Rev. Alan Curtis presiding.
