THEFTS
A Portland resident reported $3,000 worth of electronic equipment stolen from his vehicle on Sunday.
Ryan Wenk, 1113 N. Franklin St., Portland, told Portland police that a PlayStation 2, a five-inch video screen, a 1200-watt amplifier, a 200-watt power converter, and a JVC head deck had been stolen from his locked car sometime between 4 and 11:15 a.m. while it was parked at his residence.
A CD case containing 130 CDs also was stolen.
Also this morning, Menno Schwartz reported the theft of seven nail guns from the rear of a van parked in a pole barn north of Pennville.
Schwartz told police when he arrived at 5 a.m. this morning he discovered the theft of three Paslode roofing nailers, a Paslode spiker, a Mackax roofing nailer, a Paslode sheeting stapler and a tar paper gun. The building at 6122 North Ind. 1 was locked except for one door. The van was unlocked.
Six of the nail guns were owned by Tim Yanko of Yanko Construction; the seventh was owned by Schwartz. The incident occurred sometime between Friday and this morning.
On Friday, rural Portland resident Deb Manor told Jay County police that her purse, some change and her vehicle registration had been stolen from the glove compartment of her 1986 Ford Ranger truck while it was parked at her residence at 8194 East 400 South.
The theft occurred sometime between 2:30 and 11 a.m. on Friday.
BURGLARY
The manager of Family Dollar, 709 N. Meridian St., Portland, reported an attempted break-in at the store on Thursday.
Sharon Sullivan alerted Portland police to the attempt after reporting to work at 8:50 a.m. on Friday. Police arrived to find pry marks, and the door appeared to be twisted. No entry to the building was made.
PARKING LOT ACCIDENT
A vehicle driven by a rural Portland woman collided with a parked car in the parking lot of a local restaurant Saturday at 9:54 a.m.
Sherry E. Hillard, 53, 3151 West Division Road, was backing out of a parking space at Richards Restaurant, 1615 N. Meridian St., and collided with a car owned by David Huntsman, 4031 South 600 East, Salamonia.
Estimated damages to the 2000 Chrysler Town and Country, registered to Kenneth M. and Sherry E. Hillard, same address as driver, and the 1996 Dodge Neon were between $750 and $1,000.
COUNTY ACCIDENTS
Jay County police investigated three accidents on Saturday.
At 8:55 a.m., Cameron Lee Troxell, 19, 725 West Division Road, Union City, was northbound on U.S. 27, near county road 900 North in Bearcreek Township, when he attempted to pass a vehicle driven by Barbara D. Robinson, 62, 9390 South 275 East, Geneva.
Troxell told police he lost control of his vehicle on an ice-covered bridge, and his truck struck the guard rail on the east side of the road, bounced off, collided with Robinson’s car, and came to rest in the northbound lane.
Estimated damages to the 2001 Chevrolet 1500, registered to Timothy N. and Melanie A. Troxell, same address as driver, and the 2001 Chevrolet Impala, registered to Thomas W. and Barbara P. Robinson, same address as driver, were between $2,500 and $5,000.
A Redkey man was involved in an accident with a deer at 6:14 p.m. in Richland Township.
Jeffrey W. Hammond, 45, 7582 West 400 South , was eastbound on county road 400 South, near county road 1150 West, when a deer ran onto the road and the collision occurred.
Estimated damage to the 2001 Dodge 2500 pick-up truck, registered to Jeffrey W. Hammond/JJ Day Inc., Muncie, was between $750 and $1,000.
Another deer accident occurred on Ind. 18, near county road 125 West in Jackson Township, at 10:30 p.m. Saturday.
James D.W. Morris, 16, 6343 South 100 West, Poneto, was westbound when the deer entered the road from the south.
Estimated damage to the 2000 Chevrolet Impala, registered to Tim and Pamela Morris, 3159 W. Market St., Liberty Center, was between $1,000 and $2,500.
MERCER ACCIDENTS
A rural Portland man was involved in an early morning accident with a deer near Fort Recovery on Dec. 4.
Gregory A. Bergman, 49, was northbound on Union City Road, near Fox Road, at 1:30 a.m. when two deer entered the road. He told Mercer County police he couldn’t avoid a collision. The Mack truck he was driving, registered to Cooper Farms Inc., Fort Recovery, sustained minor damage.
On Nov. 28 at 11:20 p.m. on Ohio 49 at Industrial Drive near Fort Recovery, Frederick J. Wuebker, 50, 13891 Oswalt-Good Road, Fort Recovery, lost control of his southbound pick-up truck, which went off the left side of the road, landed in a ditch and came to rest on its top.
Wuebker left the scene of the accident and didn’t report the crash until 7:40 a.m. on Nov. 29.
He was cited by police for failure to maintain vehicle control.

A semi-truck owned by a Fort Recovery man was struck by a car on Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
Richard Kreider, 221 W. Butler St., told Fort Recovery police that his 1991 International truck was struck by an unknown car while it was parked in front of his home. The vehicle left the scene after the collision.
Kreider’s semi sustained minor damage.
Fort Recovery police also are investigating a parked car that was struck by an unknown vehicle on Dec. 1 at 11:05 a.m.
A 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by David A. Stouder, 108 S. Wayne St., was parked in front of 110 S. Wayne St. in Fort Recovery, when an unknown vehicle struck the front of his car, causing minor damage.
The collision occurred sometime between 11 p.m. Nov. 27 and 11 a.m. on Dec. 1.
Vehicles driven by a Fort Recovery man and a Dunkirk man collided on Dec. 1 at 12:20 p.m. in Fort Recovery.
Urban Dirksen, 133 Watkins Road, Fort Recovery, told Fort Recovery police he was parked on Wayne Street, when a truck driven by Alvin Confer, 9597 West Division Road, Dunkirk, backed from an alley into his 1996 Chevrolet truck.
