Miller told police she had purchased the wood from Grieshop during the summer of 2003 and had paid for it.

Jay County police investigated two reports of vandalism this weekend.

CITY ACCIDENTS

Portland police were called to investigate four accidents in a little over an hour on Friday, two of which were hit-and-runs.

The first accident happened at 3:50 p.m. on North Meridian Street at Lafayette Street that involved three vehicles.

Mark D. Cook, 35, 1006 E. Main St., Berne, was southbound on Meridian Street and didn’t realize that traffic had stopped in front of him for a red light. He collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by L.C. Snyder, 57, 1237 North U.S. 27, Portland, who was stopped at the intersection.

The impact of Cook’s truck into Snyder’s truck, caused Snyder’s vehicle to collide with a car driven by Paulette J. Evans, 54, 910 S. Bridge St., Portland, which was also stopped at the intersection.

Estimated damages to Cook’s 1996 Chevrolet Silverado, the 1995 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Snyder and registered to Precision Tree Service, same address as driver; and Evans’ 1997 Chrysler Sebring, were between $1,000 to $2,500.

The first of the hit-and-run accidents was reported at 3:51 p.m. and happened sometime between Jan. 28 and Feb. 4.

Angela S. McElfresh, 604 N. Williams St., Portland, told police that her 2003 Chevrolet Impala had been struck sometime between Jan. 28 and Feb. 4, but she didn’t know when or where the accident happened. She noticed damage to the front fender of the car and reported it on Friday.

McElfresh said she thought the only places the accident could have occurred would have been her residence or Wal-Mart. Estimated damage was between $750 and $1,000.

Another accident was reported at 4:44 p.m. and happened at the intersection of Votaw and Meridian streets.

Lexie D. Lee, 17, 823 S. Meridian St., Portland, and Kelly J. Ledbetter, 43, 315 E. Third St., Portland, both told police they were traveling south on Meridian Street and began stopping at the traffic signal at Votaw Street, when Lee’s vehicle collided with the rear of Ledbetter’s vehicle.

Estimated damages to the 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier, registered to John E. Lee, 954 S. Shank St., Portland, and Ledbetter’s 1996 Chrysler Cirrus LX, were between $1,000 and $2,500.

The other hit-and-run accident was reported at 5:05 p.m. by Sheila V. Edgell, 32, 3281 West Randolph-Wayne County Line Road, Fountain City.

Edgell told police she noticed her vehicle had been struck from behind as it was parked at W&M Manufacturing, 1000 N. Morton St., Portland, while she was at work.
