ITEMS STOLEN
Redkey police are investigating the theft of $10,000 in cash and checks from a Redkey man’s vehicle while it was parked at his home.
Roger Clay, 111 W. Grandview St., told Redkey police on Friday that $7,500 in cash and three checks totaling $2,500 were stolen from his unlocked van. The theft occurred sometime between Thursday at 7 p.m. and Friday at 10 a.m.
ONE INJURED
A rural Portland teenager suffered minor injuries following a Friday accident at 8:55 p.m. in Noble Township.
Annette N. Gillett, 19, 1275 East 400 South, refused treatment after complaining of neck pain.
Gillett was driving north on State Line Road when she lost control of her 1999 Ford Escort. The car traveled off the west side of the road and struck a utility pole, owned by Jay County REMC.
Damage to Gillett’s car was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
MEETING
The Jay County Council will meet Wednesday in the commissioners’ room on the second floor of the Jay County Courthouse.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m.
CITY ACCIDENT
A car registered to a Portland woman struck the corner of a Portland home on Saturday at 12:44 p.m.
The 1990 Buick car, registered to Shirley M. Green, 936 W. Water St., was reportedly driven by a relative who didn’t have her permission to drive.
The driver of the car, who Portland police were unable to identify, was attempting to make a left turn at the intersection of Noble and High streets and struck the corner of the home, owned by Mary Chase, 503 W. High St.
Damage to the car and the home was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
DEER ACCIDENTS
Two vehicle/deer collisions were reported to Jay County police on Saturday.
At 7 a.m. Saturday in Penn Township, Carl F. Walker, 54, 10122 West Balbec Road, Pennville, was driving east on Balbec Road, about 1,500 feet west of county road 950 West, when a deer ran onto the road.
Walker struck the deer with his 1997 GMC truck, causing less than $1,000 in damage.
At 6:50 p.m. Saturday in Jackson Township, a car driven by Rob. L. Peterson, 26, 6482 East 1100 South, Keystone, struck a deer.
Peterson was driving south on county road 550 West, about 1,000 feet south of county road 850 North, when the collision occurred.
Damage to his 1999 Honda Civic was estimated between $2,500 and $1,000.
HOME ENTERED
A rural Portland woman reported to Jay County police that someone entered her home sometime Sunday.
Nicole Schwieterman, 659 West 650 South, told Jay County police that when she returned home Sunday at approximately 7 p.m. the door into her home from the garage, a garage door and a rear garage door were open.
According to the police report, there were no items missing from the garage or the home and there was no damage to the home.
PLATE STOLEN
A license plate was reported stolen from a Bryant man’s vehicle on Saturday.
Joshua Pogue, 107 W. Elm St., told Jay County police that the license plate on his 1986 Chevrolet Blazer was stolen sometime between midnight Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
DRIVE OFF
An employee of Village Pantry in Portland reported to Portland police on Friday that a van drove off without paying for $23.73 in gasoline.
The drive-off was reported at 1:39 p.m. Friday.
POSTPONED
The Jay/Portland Building and Planning Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday at 9 a.m. was canceled due to lack of a quorum.
SOCIAL SECURITY CHANGES
Social Security service hours in Portland are going to change beginning in February according to Muncie Social Security manager James Warrner.
Representatives will be in Portland in the Jay County Courthouse auditorium on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. Afternoon services will no longer be available.
Jay County residents can conduct their business in the Muncie office, 600 N. Walnut St., Muncie, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.
