CORRECTION
The Portland Park Board will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21 to gather support for the city’s state grant application pertaining to the planned Hudson Family Park project. The hearing will be held in the community room of the Portland Fire Station, 1616 N. Franklin St., Portland.
The date of the hearing was incorrect in The Commercial Review on Jan. 14.
PI ACCIDENTS
A Decatur man was transported by an ambulance for face pain following a Saturday afternoon accident in Bearcreek Township.
Robert W. Raudenbush, 80, 216 W. Adams St., was driving south on Bryant Pike at U.S. 27 when lost control of the car he was driving on the ice-covered roads. His 1986 Mercury car traveled off the west side of the road, struck a road sign owned by the Indiana Department of Transportation and then traveled off the east side of U.S. 27. Raudenbush’s car went into a yard owned by Don Ainsworth, and struck a tree. Damage to his car was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
A Ridgeville woman was injured in an accident Saturday morning at 6:40 a.m. on Como Road, near county road 400 South, in Jefferson Township.
Leslie R. McIntire, 40, 7511 South Como Road, was transported by Jay Emergency Medical Service with minor bleeding to her face after her sport utility vehicle rolled over into a ditch.
McIntire was traveling northwest on Como Road approaching the stop sign at county road 400 South, when she lost control of her SUV on the icy road. The vehicle rolled over into a ditch and came to rest on its side.
Estimated damage to the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, registered also to Clinton McIntire, same address as driver, was between $5,000 and $10,000. It was towed from the scene.
A Fort Recovery man and a Bryant woman were injured in an accident on Saturday at 12:40 p.m. in Jackson Township.
Danny R. Bechtol, 57, 503 First St., Fort Recovery, was transported by JEMS to Jay County Hospital following the accident at county roads 650 North and 50 West. Ester Wengerd, 37, 6798 North 550 West, a passenger in Bechtol’s van, was also transported by JEMS to the hospital after complaining of pain to her lower leg.
The accident occurred as Bechtol was westbound on county road 650 North approaching county road 50 West. He told Jay County police as he began to stop, but his van slid on the icy road going through the intersection and into a guardrail owned by the Jay County Highway Department.
Estimated damage to the 2001 Dodge Ram 3500, registered to Ernest L. and Janet E. Muhlenkamp, 8835 East 500 North, Portland, was between $1,000 and $2,500.
A Portland woman was also taken to JCH by JEMS on Saturday following a 1 p.m. accident near Nan Del Lane on county road 200 South.
Marcia May Ballard, 28, 1237 North U.S. 27, Portland, complained of pain to her elbow after her SUV slid off 200 South and struck a utility pole owned by Sprint.
Estimated damage to the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, registered to Max Ballard, 819 E. Walnut St., Portland, was between $5,000 and $10,000.
MISCHIEF
Portland police investigated an incident of mischief at 105 1/2 W. Main St., Portland, at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Max McClurg, 1702 West Tyson Road, Portland, told the police that someone had broken glass on the door of the West Main Street apartment sometime between 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
CITY ACCIDENTS
Portland police investigated two accidents in Portland on Saturday, the first occurring at the intersection of Water and Charles streets.
Fernando Regalado, 24, 439 E. Votaw St., Portland, was traveling south on Charles Street, when he attempted to stop at the stop sign and failed. He collided with a vehicle driven by Carreno Neri, 25, 816 N. Franklin St., Portland, who was attempting to turn left from Water Street onto Charles Street.
Estimated damages to the 1990 Chevrolet car registered to Jesus Perez, 1102 N. Ben Hawkins, Portland, and Neri’s 1994 Ford car were between $1,000 and $2,500.
The second accident Saturday occurred in the parking lot of Village Pantry at 12:02 p.m.
Jose L. Romero, 28, 421 W. Arch St., Portland, was backing out of a parking space and collided with a parked car registered to Kerioka Newton, 1016 W. Main St., Portland. He told police he couldn’t see the car because of the ice on his pick-up truck.
Estimated damages to Romero’s 1993 Chevrolet truck and Newton’s 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo were between $750 and $1,000.
ALARM MALFUNCTION
Portland firefighters were called to investigate an alarm at Doane Pet Care in Portland on Sunday at 1:31 p.m.
A sprinkler system malfunction caused the alarm at the Portland business, according to the department’s report.
Twelve firefighters responded to the call with two trucks.
