CORRECTION
Due to incorrect information provided to The Commercial Review, the military classifications of a Portland resident and a Union City resident were listed incorrectly in Saturday’s edition of The CR.
The soldiers should have been identified as Sgt. Chris Addington, of Union City, and Spec. 4 Steven Lothridge Jr., of Portland.
CORRECTION
A page one item in Wednesday’s edition of The Commercial Review about turkey manure being washed into a Pike Township ditch contained incorrect information provided by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
The manure, which was washed into a drainage ditch just west of U.S. 27 north of county road 700 South, came from a farm owned by Mike Schwieterman, rural Fort Recovery. The name of the farm owner was incorrect in the original story.
MEETING
The Jay County Health Board will meet Thursday, Jan. 8, at 7 a.m. at the Jay County Courthouse Annex, 504 W. Arch St., Portland.
CITY ACCIDENTS
A vehicle driven by a Richmond man collided with a semi-trailer driven by a Fairmount woman Friday at 6:28 a.m. at the intersection of Meridian and Lincoln streets.
Tracy Smith, 32, 715 N. Rush St., told police she was northbound on Meridian Street, approaching the intersection of Lincoln Street in a 1991 Kenworth semi. A vehicle driven by Blake A. Chamness, 23, 4016 Elizabeth St., collided with the rear of the semi as it was coming to a stop.
Smith’s semi is registered to AAA Freightliners, 3157 East 500 South, New Castle. The 1998 Chevrolet truck Chamness was driving is registered to Perfection Bakeries Inc., 350 Pearl St., Fort Wayne.
Damage to both vehicles was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
A car registered to a rural Portland man was damaged while parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot Sunday at 12:50 p.m.
Joshua J. Cordell, 4042 Treaty Line Road, told Portland police at 12:50 p.m. Sunday that he left his 2000 Mercury Cougar parked in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, 1600 N. Meridian St. When Cordell returned to his vehicle, it had sustained damage from another vehicle.
No damage estimate was provided on a city police accident report.
DRIVE OFF
An employee of Village Pantry in Portland reported to Portland police on Sunday at 12:04 p.m. that a driver failed to pay for gasoline.
According to the Village Pantry employee, the driver of a black car failed to pay for $5 of gas.
