Stolen from barn

Several items were stolen from a barn in rural Portland recently.

Robert Vance, 829 S. Bridge St., told Jay County police that a chainsaw, an industrial fan, fuel injectors and several parts for Chevrolet engines and motorcycle engines were stolen from his barn at 2594 East 300 South.

Vance said the value of the stolen items was estimated at $10,000. The items were stolen between sometime Wednesday and before 7:07 p.m. Sunday.

Receiver stolen

A satellite receiver was stolen from a Dish Network employee's vehicle.

Sukhjit Sandhu told Portland police that the receiver had been in the back of his truck while he was working at 918 W. Race St., Portland, on April 25. Sometime on that day, it was stolen.

Sandhu reported the theft Friday. Value of the receiver was $250.

Medication stolen

Someone stole prescription medication from a rural Ridgeville man's truck while he was working in Portland on Friday.

Richard Planalp, 1108 East Ind. 28, told Portland police that 10 pills were stolen from his unlocked 1986 Ford Ranger while he was working at Stoneridge, 700 Industrial Park Drive.

The theft occurred between 6:15 and 11:13 a.m.

Seeking grant

The Geneva Town Council has approved a resolution to seek $1 million in grant funds to improve the town's sewer system.

The town is seeking a Community Block Grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to resolve infiltration and inflow issues, to rehabilitate the sanitary sewer, to eliminate the Hardy Addition lift station and to add a new sanitary sewer interceptor and Red Gold force main.

Total cost for the project has been estimated at $1,008,410.

In area courts

In Adams Superior Court recently, Jake C. Schwartz, 18, Geneva, pleaded guilty to minor consuming alcohol. He was sentenced to 60 days in the Adams County Jail, all suspended, and was ordered to pay court costs.

In the same court, Chad A. Weaver, 36, Pennville, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle without insurance. His driver's license was suspended for 30 days and he was ordered to pay court costs.

False alarm

A fire alarm at a Portland factory sounded Sunday, but no fire was found.

Portland firefighters were called to Hartzell Fan, 1700 N. Meridian St., at 10:37 a.m. The first firefighters arrived at 10:38 a.m. Ten firefighters responded with two trucks.

Firefighters left the scene at 11 a.m.

Motor overheats

A motor at Coca-Cola Bottling Company, 1617 N. Meridian St., Portland, overheated Sunday, causing the warehouse to fill with smoke.

Portland firefighters were called to the scene at 8:41 p.m. Fourteen firefighters responded with two trucks.

A motor on a well overheated and emitted smoke, the fire chief said.

Firefighters left the scene at 9:04 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
