Man injured

An Ohio man was injured Friday when he was involved in a two-vehicle accident in Portland.

Kevin Ballis, 53, 5705 E. Sprague St., Independence, complained of neck pain following the 4:29 p.m. accident. He was transported to Jay County Hospital by Jay Emergency Medical Service, then taken by ambulance to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, JEMS personnel said this morning.

A Parkview official said Ballis was not listed in the hospital's directory this morning.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash, Lisa C. Wallace, 44, 3680 West 500 North, Uniondale, told Portland police she was turning east onto Lincoln Street from Meridian Street.

According to witnesses, Ballis was riding a 1986 Honda Goldwing south on Meridian Street. The witnesses told police that Wallace turned in front of Ballis. She was cited for failure to yield the right of way.

Ballis was thrown from the motorcycle.

The 4:29 p.m. accident caused damage to Wallace's 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora, also registered to William L. Wallace, same address, and the motorcycle, registered to Bryon L. Young, 8639 West 50 North, Greensburg, that was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Intersection collision

Vehicles driven by a Zionsville man and a rural Portland woman collided at an intersection in Portland on Saturday.

A 2003 Lexus driven by Michael M. Ashley, 58, 4643 Hickory Court, and a 2002 Mercury Sable driven by Rebecca L. Bisel, 23, 1237 North U.S. 27, Lot 55, collided at Votaw Street and Western Avenue.

According to Portland police, Ashley was driving south on Patriot Drive and began to cross Votaw Street. At the same time, Bisel was turning left onto Votaw Street. The vehicles collided at 2:15 p.m.

Combined damage was estimated at $1,000 to $2,500.

Stolen from garage

A Portland man told police several items were stolen from his garage recently.

Jerry Adams, 515 E. Arch St., said a chain saw, a fishing pole and reel, a clamp and a cordless drill were stolen.

Total value was estimated at $390.

The burglary occurred between 9:30 p.m. Thursday and sometime on Saturday.

The items were stolen from his garage, he told Portland police.

Stolen from car

A Portland resident told police that a compact disc player and other items were stolen from his car.

Jesus E. Torres Cruz, 709 W. Walnut St., said the theft occurred between just after midnight Friday and 5:32 a.m. Saturday. Along with the CD player, two amplifiers, two speaker boxes and four speakers were stolen.

Total value was estimated at $700.

The theft occurred while his 1990 Chevrolet Corsica was parked at his residence.[[In-content Ad]]
