Dog hit

A dog was hit on Mt. Pleasant Road Saturday morning by a vehicle driven by a Portland woman.

Tiffany M. Witt, 22, 6603 South 600 West, was driving northeast on Mt. Pleasant Road near county road 400 South when she struck a dog lying on the middle of the road. The accident occurred at 5:45 a.m.

The dog belonged to Richard Nixon, 3708 Mt. Pleasant Road.

The accident caused between $1,000 and $2,500 damage to Witt's 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. Jay County police investigated the accident.

Rollover accident

A Coldwater, Ohio, man was run off the road, rolling over into a creek Thursday night.

Steven R. Myers, 22, 911 N. 7th St., Apt. 49, was driving south on County Road 800 East near county road 200 North when he was run off the road by a white vehicle. His 2002 Ford Focus went off the west side of the road, rolled over and came to rest in a creek upside down.

The accident occurred at 10:30 p.m. but was not reported to Jay County police until around 3 a.m. Myers was cited for driving with a suspended or revoked license and leaving the scene of an accident.

An estimated $5,000 to $10,000 of damage was caused in the accident. The car is registered to Lindeva M. Rosario, same address.

Vehicle damaged

A car was damaged in the parking lot of Portland's Wal-Mart Saturday evening.

A 1995 Chrysler Concorde, registered to Misty D. George, 997 Boundary Pike, Portland, was damaged in the supercenter parking lot, 650 Votaw St.

The vehicle was damaged while the driver was inside the store, George told Portland police. An estimated $750 to $1,000 was caused to the vehicle.

Mailbox bombed

A rural Portland man's mailbox was blown up by fireworks Friday night.

Van E. Guntle, 705 North 200 West, reported that his mailbox had been damaged sometime after 11 p.m. Friday. Guntle told Jay County police that someone had damaged it with fireworks.

Car chipped

A vehicle was damaged by a rolling fire ring at Paradise Pointe RV Resort.

Thelma Scoot, 1227 North U.S. 27, Lot 76, Portland, told Jay County police two women were having an argument at the lot across from her at the campground. One of the women reportedly kicked a metal fire ring, which rolled across and struck the front of Scoot's vehicle, causing some chips in the paint.

The damage was estimated at less than $200.

Mailbox knocked

A mailbox was vandalized in rural Portland.

Renee Oliver, 3335 West 75 South, reported to Jay County police that her mailbox was knocked down sometime before 12:43 a.m. Sunday. The mailbox is valued at $50.

Child referred

A 12-year-old boy has been referred to the Jay County Probation Department for allegedly stealing fireworks.

The Portland youth allegedly shoplifted at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 650 W. Votaw St., Portland, on Sunday. He is accused of stealing seven bags of TNT Pop-Its, valued at $5.60.

Theft, a class D felony charge when committed by an adult, is considered an act of delinquency when committed by a juvenile.

Baseballs stolen

Someone broke into a press box at a baseball diamond and stole five-dozen baseballs.

The incident occurred at Runkle-Miller Field at Portland Memorial Park, Portland. The door of the press box was removed.

The burglary was reported Saturday at 9:32 p.m. The time of occurrence is unknown.

Window broken

A Portland resident told Portland police someone broke a window on her van recently.

Cheryl Martyne, 907 W. Arch St., said the incident occurred between sometime Friday and 7:08 p.m. Sunday. A small window on the driver's side was shattered.

Stereo stolen

A Portland resident's compact disc player was stolen from his car during the weekend.

Micah Enyart, 102 Silvers Lane, told Portland police the theft occurred between 11:30 p.m. Friday and 6:33 p.m. Saturday. The CD player was taken from his unlocked 1997 Honda Accord while the car was parked at his residence. Enyart did not provide a value estimate.

Change stolen

A Portland resident told police that someone entered his apartment and stole change.

Duane Stocker, 415 W. Walnut St., told Portland police he was awakened Friday morning by someone in his residence. He chased the male, but could not catch him.

The burglary occurred between 3:30 and 6:47 a.m. Stocker said $5 in quarters was stolen from his unlocked apartment.

In area courts

In Blackford Superior Court recently, Randy J. Hornbaker, Dunkirk, was fined $25 for a seat belt violation.[[In-content Ad]]
